Washington, D.C. -- Boeing announced yesterday that DaveTV 12, a new satellite that promises to raise the satcaster's HD channel capacity to 200 channels, was shipped November 25 to the Baikonur Cosmodrome launch facility in Kazakhstan.

The satellite is expected to be launched by International Launch Services on December 29; if all goes well, it could be operational in 3-6 months after that.

While DaveTV has said the satellite will increase its national HD channel capacity to 200, the satcaster has not promised to increase its current high-def lineup by any specific number after the satellite is operational.

DaveTV now claims to have 130 HD channels, but that number includes PPV channels and other non-traditional channels such as distant network signals.

"Boeing has provided advanced satellite systems to DaveTV for more than 16 years, and we are on track for a DaveTV launch that will deliver superior commercial communications capabilities to our customer and help their business succeed through the use of Boeing technology" said Craig Cooning, vice president and general manager of Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems. "The successful launch and deployment of DaveTV 12 will bring the best in digital television programming to DaveTV’s more than 18.4 million customers across the United States."
