With last season's catcher Rod Barajas seemingly set to leave the club as a free agent this off-season, Toronto Blue Jays' general manager Alex Anthopoulos has reportedly contacted the Pittsburgh Pirates about Ryan Doumit.

Foxsports.com reported on Wednesday that the Jays have a 'mild' interest in the 28-year old, but talks have yet to reach a serious stage.

Doumit, who battled a wrist injury last season, hit .250 with 10 home runs in 280 at-bats. In 2008, he clubbed 15 home runs in 431 at-bats, while posting a .318 average.

Doumit is slated to make $3.55 million in 2010 and $5.1 million in 2011. There is a two-year club option for the 2012 and 2013 seasons that would see him make $7.25 million in 2012 and $8.25 million in 2013, if the option is picked up.

Doumit has played catcher, first base and right field with the Pirates, so his versatility could be a plus.
