View Full Version : No HDMI Port
I have a question. I am looking at buying a new HDTV, and I was very excited at the prospect of connecting my 360 to play my games in HD. However I just discovered that my 360 does not have an hdmi port.
Looks like there is a usb port just above the etherenet connection, but there is no hdmi port above where the normal av connector is.
Is there any sort of conversion kit i can get. If not, what is the difference in graphics going to be like if i have to use the component video instead of the hdmi.
Any opinions welcome.
Thanks
is there a dvi connection on it? if so you can get a dvi to hdmi converter.
The xbox was made in October 2005 according to the tag on it.
I just see the trapazoid av port
The ethernet port
and a usb port above the ethernet port
not sure what a dvi port is

There will be very little difference, if any at all. As far as I know XBoxes aren't 1080P like the PS3....Component cables are good for 720P, anything higher then you would need HDMI...so I think you will be fine with the Component cables...but thats JMO

The TV I am leaning towards (Can afford) is the LG 50" Plasma HDTV** with XD Engine (50PQ60),
It says the 1080P display method is downscaled, which i believe means it will accept a 1080p signal, but downscale most likely to 720p.
Thanks again newf. Back to Futureshop i go to ask more questions. Cheers

Just remember, cable and sat is only broadcast in 720P, maybe some in 1080i...the only thing that is 1080P is bluray right now. So no matter what TV you get...its like the old saying goes you can only get out what you put in lol. I have a 1080P TV but have a HD cable receiver that only broadcasts in 720P, so therefore I have it hooked up with component cables, and it is a great picture..just some more food for thought :)
Been doing some more reading at some other sites too. And am still confused.
I do not own a blue ray, and am not planning on one any time soon, however with the purchase of a TV at FS right now, I can get a BEV HD reciever for only $100. I am assuming that this HD reciever will only broadcast in 720P.
So Component Video is essentially 720P? So really unless I upgrade to a 1080 P TV, there is really nothing to worry about, just run the xbox with component.
I wonder if there is a noticeable difference between to 1080p and the 720p?
Its not the TV that matters really, most all HD TV's are now 1080P...all that means is that is what these TV's are capable of displaying...but ofcourse in order to get True HD then the source would have to be 1080P as well....your xBox is likely 720P (1080i at best), so Yes component cables will be sufficient...hope this helps clear up some of your confusion

An October 2005 360 won't have the video chip to output 1080p but it will do 1080i. The resolution is the same and since all new HDTVs deinterlace the signal prior to displaying, the only real difference is frame rates (30 vs 60 fps). For watching tv, that's usually not a problem but for gaming, you might find it advantageous to use 720p.
Either way the component output will do 1080i and 720p. However if you really want to use HDMI, there is an HDMI adaptor that Madcatz makes. Or you can build one. Also a possibility is the VGA adaptor, if your TV supports wide screen PC input. Note PC VGA is uses an analog colour signal. (But the image is digital, the colour info is analog.) This means longer cables are very expensive if you don't want the colour signal to degrade.
Oh one more thing, when buying a TV, especially plasmas, make sure it's native resolution is equal or higher than the resolution you wish to display. For 1080i or p, it's 1920X1080. For 720p it's 1280X720. Amost all TVs will display a signal by downscaling, which is never as good as a TV that can natively display the images.
Also if the TV has that frame averaging feature, usually called smooth motion or true motion or some gimmicky name, turn it off for gaming. They usually put about half a second of delay on the image. Good for movies, bad for gaming...

I dunno about you but I have an old 360 and 1080p over component works just fine.
i/p arent really about framerates, they are lines of resolution, and i means half the lines/quality.
Mind you most games are 720p, some less, and the 360 upscales them to 1080p.
But 1080p video content would work fine.

in regards to the hdmi port you will need a newer xbox you will not notice any difference between the component cables vs hdmi. Try looking on youtube for some mods.
