A clearly emotional Hank Williams Jr. started his tour of Alabama's devastated areas in Tuscaloosa Tuesday morning, staring in sad disbelief at the ravaged areas of Holt.

“I've never seen anything like this,” he said. “Nothing can prepare you for this....This is like a clear-cut by nature.”

Williams flew down from his northwestern Tennessee home to see first-hand areas he knows and has called home, such as Cullman. where he lived in the mid-70s. His father was born in Georgiana, and Williams maintains other deep ties to the state, including good friends such as Tommy Wilcox and a hunting cabin in Pike County.

The trip came just prior to a country all-star disaster-relief concert Williams is organizing for Thursday night on CMT, with performers such as Alabama, Ronnie Dunn, Sara Evans, Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw and Keith Urban.

“My family's laid to rest in this state, as I will be,” he said. “Help is on the way.”
