Ok you got me, what is FreeDBS
Its a true FTA service that has been announced for a while.. The programing lineup they mentioned was lackluster. Its something along the lines of a UK service whereyou buy a receiver and it allows you to receive their programing NC.. Been talk of it for 2 years but nothing concrete has come of it.. Who knows maybe in 2 weeks ???LOL

Conversion is the converting of non-believers to that of believers, or in this case those who are not Ray or Ray's Uncle to those who will believe in the endeavor of the project. :tehe:
What's next? . . . . . . . . ? Perhaps The Rapture !:tehe:

Thanks JCO ,but you did make the impression that it is necessary to buy a receiver like the Manhattan to use Free DBS (LIKE THE UK) Almost all FTA receivers will work ?

every time this subject comes up I can't help but think you get what you pay for. If they ever do launch I suspect the channel lineup wouldn't be worth the effort of aiming a dish in that direction

Well Nostradamus you might be right ,but with the 30 channels thay show there is got to be some good . With the motor you just have to put in the sat and the dish will aim itself . From your post Gather you are not using a motor ,if not try it ,I have 26 sats in my ark and move from one to the other at will with the press of a button

My question is always where will they make their money?? Makes me think of a dedicated receiver, up to know their bussiness plan has been very vague and hinted at various posibilities..
As for the 30 or so chanels they suggested there is already better existing content on the free birds that are up there..

No man your right and not even going to consider a motorized system until I after I move here and even still I am not a big channel surfer. I watch maybe 30 channels regularly so really even 2 sats is overkill for me but I am with JCO and really do not expect to see much more than maybe PBS and CBC channels at best

If anything comes of it, it'll be a bonus for members who are doing fta as well. They've made many statements in the past and some members just seem to get disappointed. Nothing is a sure thing in the fta biz.

Unless your in Europe, then FTA is booming..

I'm thinking it will have a ton of commercials or other advertising, it just has to in order to make enough money to operate.
I'm still wondering if they've applied for a broadcasting license (do they need one? Terryl?). In Canada anyways, such an endeavor would need approval and licensing.

You said it bud. Although you have monopolies like Astra in Europe, thousands of free to air channels in the open. It's a shame that bev, dt and dn basically have the whole North American market by the b****.

Astra, Canal+, and a few others..
Problem here is the FCC and the CRTC are bussines cronies and not there for the end user..

It's a shame, I scan in about as many fta channels here that I did when I lived in Europe 10 years ago.

If you moved that BUD to italy or Spain, your receiver wouldnt have enough channess to store all the FTA signals available there in all the languages in Europe , Russia and Africa..LOL

You said it, I'd need an stb with 10,000 channel capacity just to be on the safe side.

Ahh,Costac you still have that level head.Keep it to keep some stability in the site.
Sat Chic,They won't need a license to broadcast in Canada (I don't think anyway) because they are broadcasting on an American satellite,Same as Globecast??Perhaps they will be a tenant of Globecast?I have been known to be wrong before,believe-it-or-not,lol.It's nice to be back.
Edit: I think I posted their broadcast application last year.
