Hey guys,

I know this is not the recommended way of getting 129W, but being that I get 99% quality on 110 & 119 maybe the poor man's dish 1000.X won't be so bad. I'd like to try it. I'm looking for some pics and links on this project. I used the search button but 500 and 129 are left out in the results. Thank you.

If you're just using one fta receiver you can alway run 2 cables from DP lnb to a diseqc (ports 1 and 2), then add another dish (129) to port 3.

I don't want to add another dish. Thanks.

If you look at this install guide for adding a DP single LNB to a D500+ (Figure #1 on the guide) you will see what is needed, the LNB's are out there.

I think the same dealer will have the correct LNB and mount for it.

However some areas have reception problems on 129W with that small of a dish, the Dish 1000+ was released to combat that problem.

You will also need a switch to handle the LNB's, a DPP44 is recommended as it will power all 4 LNB's, you have to run the power inserter on it's own coax to port # 1 of the DPP44 switch, this is to prevent possible damage to your receiver.

I don't have a Dish 500 Plus but a Dish 500 Pro.

Then you may have problems, as that dish is a bit too small and the wrong type (not enough receive beam width) to get 110 to 129, I would replace the whole thing with a nice Dish 1000+, does the job quite well.

But if you want to try for it then get the additional LNB for 129 and the DPP44 switch and follow the install guide, it will set you up for the lot on a 500 pro. (still may have problems)

Adding the 129w lnb to a dish 500 does not work well as terryl has pointed out, the dish 1000+ will get you 110w, 118.7w, 119w, and 129w. Or you could use the dish 1000 or the dish 1000.2 or dish 1000.4 western arc for 110w, 119w, and 129w.

There was a bracket that used to sell on ebay for this. Had this type of setup on a dish 500 using this magic bracket but it was a very difficult setup. As you can see by the pics the 129 lnb is pointed into the center of the dish as far as it will go and actually had to press it up against the dish pro head to get signal the reason for the standard lnb. Takes a lot of adjusting to get signal on this setup as the dish500 is just not wide enough to get good signal on all 3 lnbs. Just isnt the dish to use for this type mod.

Even though it is possible it took a lot of work to get signal quality up to 70 to 75% which does not really allow you much for rain fade. Terryl is giving you some good advise an elliptical dish would be much better to mod.

You should be able to find a surplus/used Dish 1000 or 1000.2 around, that'll get you 110, 119, 129. The only difference between the two dishes is the 1000 uses three single LNBs and an external switch; the 1000.2 uses a three satellite LNB with a built in switch.

You don't leave yourself much options other than trying this backet D-troit mentions here, and it does work......

.... or change you dish out to a dish 1000, dish 1000+, or a dish 1000.2, but remember that the LNBs on the newer dish LNBs (DPP) require more power than the typical FTA receiver can provide.

The big problem with the D1000.2 dish is that its a bit small for good reception of 118 in some areas.

Other then that it works fine for me here in the boonies of the sierras.

He didn't mention 118, not sure if he needs it or not.

Sorry as this is quite an old thread, just a lil curious as to the switching of the pan sizes... Will the 1000.2 or the Turbo HD fit on the same mount as the 500...? I know that You can buy a 1000.2 for around $60-$70, but I can pick up a HD Pan for $20...! Thanks...! :ufo:

The diameter of the mount is the same (1.66"). I think the j-pole for the 1000.2 may be a little longer.

Thanks, Me main concern is the 4 bolts holding the pan itself to the adjustable bracket...!

If you're talking about trying to change just the reflector, then I don't think it will work. Not all reflectors have the same focal point.

Yep, that is what 4me was thinking about experimenting with, hoping the mast adapter for the 1000.2 triple lnb would adjust the focal point... Thanks for the reply...! :cheers2:

The mast adapter for the 1000 will not fit the LNB arm for the 500, not with out some modifications.

And the focal distance for the 500 pan is almost the same for the 1000 pan, I use a 1000 pan on a 500 mount, it gives me a bit more of a boost on 110/119.

And I have also used an old WildBlue satellite internet dish for 110/118/119 and 129, the LNB holder bolts right on top of the TREA arm, you have to remove all the internet TX/RX stuff, but it makes a nice wide beamwidth dish.
