HUGHES SCORES 21 OFF THE BENCH AS KNICKS DROP BLAZERS

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Larry Hughes scored 21 points in a reserve role, and the New York Knicks posted their season-high third straight victory with a 93-84 decision over the Portland Trail Blazers.

David Lee added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Knicks, who had recent wins against Atlanta and New Jersey. Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari each tallied 14 points, while Al Harrington chipped in 12 for New York, which went 13-of-26 from three-point range.

Brandon Roy had a game-high 27 points for the Blazers, who were coming off an exciting win over Houston on Saturday that was tempered by the loss of center Greg Oden. The oft-injured former No. 1 overall pick will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a fracture in his left patella.

LaMarcus Aldridge compiled 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Jerryd Bayless scored 14 for the Trail Blazers, who lost for the fourth time in five games.

After giving up the game's first four points, Portland used an 11-3 run to take the lead. The Knicks fought back to tie the contest at 18 going into the second.

New York used an 18-4 run in the second quarter to go ahead for good. Chris Duhon and Harrington each hit a three-pointer to cap the rally for a 41-31 lead with 3:58 left in the half.The Knicks shot 11-of-18 from the field during the second quarter, as Gallinari led the way with 10 points.

Ahead, 49-38, at the break, the Knicks pulled away late in the third by scoring the final 13 points of the quarter. Hughes drilled a pair of three- balls during the surge for a commanding 78-55 advantage moving to the fourth.

Portland never got closer than nine points in the last quarter.

Game Notes:

Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan underwent successful surgery Monday to repair his ruptured right Achilles' tendon. McMillan is expected to recover fully from his injury but will miss the team's four-game road trip, which began Monday. Assistant coach Dean Demopoulos took over in McMillan's place...Portland, which had won the previous five meetings, went 1-for-8 from three-point range...The Blazers had 19 turnovers, leading to 31 New York points.
