GOOD posted this ridiculous news story about a man who had urinated into a water reservoir and how the city of Portland now thinks it’s appropriate to drain, clean, and refill the reservoir at a cost of $35,000.
Yes, there’s a slight gross factor to it all — nobody wants anybody urinating in their clean water — but also note that in the video above, David Shaff of the Portland Water Bureau says that they don’t do such extensive cleaning when animals die or pee in the reservoir. This means that the water is probably just as clean as it ever was even before the man was caught peeing into it.
Maybe it’s just a big excuse to give the public reason to vouch for reservoir covers…
