By Jason Kim: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 Ko’s) wants no part of exchanging shots and fighting a long grueling battle against the big 6’6″ 247 pound IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 Ko’s) on Saturday. Perhaps because of this, Haye is saying he’s going to take Wladimir out early in the fight. It’s the advice that Haye has been given by Manny Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach, who previously trained Wladimir for small number of fights earlier in his career.
Roach thinks that Wladimir is susceptible to problems if you get to him early the way that Corrie Sanders did in 2003 in a 2nd round TKO win, and that’s what appears Haye is going to gamble all his marbles in trying to do. By going at Wladimir early, Haye is playing to his own strength because he’s at his best in the first five rounds. He’s still dangerous after five rounds, but he slows down and becomes very hittable, as we saw in his fight with his 9th round TKO win over 38-year-old John Ruiz.
If Haye is forced to fight Wladimir for nine rounds, Haye could be too beat up to do much of anything other than get knocked out. He doesn’t look powerful after the first half of the fight and seems to become much more mortal in strength. It could be that with all the bodybuilding type muscles that he’s packed on his small frame that he’s built mainly for short fights where he can exert maximum energy in a short, explosive period of time. But he lacks the endurance over the long haul. The bad news for Haye is that Wladimir is fully aware that Haye is going to attack him hard early, and will be prepared to foil his attempts to land one big bomb.
At the same time, Haye is going to have to pay attention to Wladimir’s power, because his left hook is arguably better than any weapon that Haye has in his toolbox, and Wladimir’s jab and right hand are also very formidable weapons. He could knock Haye out if he goes for broke and forgets about defending himself. It’s unfortunate that Haye’s only real chance to win is to attack Wladimir hard early.
The fight would be much better if Haye some boxing skills and some endurance to make the fight last into the later rounds, but it’s probably not going to happen that way. Either Haye will get his early knockout or Wladimir will prevent Haye from landing one of his big shots by fighting defensively, and then wearing him down slowly with his jab to eventually take him out between rounds nine through twelve.

By William Mackay: Photo: Stefan Hoyer – If you saw yesterday’s press conference with David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko you’ll notice immediately how nervous Haye was when he was speaking in front of the group of reporters. Haye’s voice was cracking and he looked like he was giving a speech for the first time in his life. It was uncomfortable watching Haye sweat bullets while talking, because the bold words that were coming out of his mouth promising pain for Wladimir this Saturday didn’t match his body.
It was like Haye was saying one thing but his body was saying something completely contrary to that. Wladimir noticed this as well, and is now worried that Haye may burn himself out before the fight with his nervousness.
Here is what Wladimir had to say to Sky Sports News: “This press conference I found totally disrespectful for the sport. You cannot joke about certain things. David Haye said he wants to handicap me, to put me in the hospital. Boxing is a very intense sport. There has been some deaths in the sport. There has been some people that have been handicaped in fights. I wish David Haye after this fight he will be healthy and that he doesn’t wind up in the hospital. I think that it’s just I was embarrassed to sit right next to hear that in public, because he put a certain shadow on the sport. And I think that David Haye needs a rehab. He needs a reality rehab on July 2nd. That exactly what he needs. This fight is going to be very important for his future because I am going to put David Haye’s feet on the ground. He’s become really cocky, really arrogant, disrespectful. He was late 45 minutes for this press conference. I hope he won’t be late for the fight. He’s acting like a super champion and a diva. He doesn’t want to shake my hand, and I hope he won’t be late. And this reality rehab is going to be good for David Haye’s future because I believes he needs to put his feet back on the ground. I’m really worried about David Haye. He was pumped with adrenalin at the press conference. It’s way too early. I hope he doesn’t burn himself out because there’s still five days to go. Now is Klitschko time. Welcome to the Klitschko world. The closer we get to the fight, and the fight itself when we’re sweating in the ring looking at each other. It’s going to be actuality, not just reality. I hope, as I said before, that he’s not going to burn himself out. He’s way too hyped up right now too early. The way he was disrespectful and disgraceful. The way he talked to to me. It was a monologue while we were facing each other. You didn’t have a mic and nobody could hear it, thank God! No matter what, I have no respect for David Haye as a human. I do have a certain respect for David Haye as a fighter. I know exactly what to do. I won’t underestimate him, but I won’t no way overestimate David Haye in this fight. So, he said he’s going to prepare something really very special. I’m ready for it. Let’s do it. It’s Klitschko time coming on Saturday.”

Jeff Powell of MailOnline writes extensively about David Haye's two persona: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

David Haye is a poor copycat of Mike Tyson. Certainly, he is nowhere close to the great Ali. However, he likes to compare himself to these two in terms of how tenacious they were. Just about the only thing he comes close to the two is with his mouth. His interview with Powell reveals David Haye's psychological warfare. He had planned all along to get under Wladimir's skin. He knows that entering the ring, at best as a "light heavyweight or cruiser-weight", he is overmatched. Klitshcko is taller, heavier, and a bigger opponent. He is a heavy puncher, apart from being known to be one of the quickest heavyweights of all times.

His demeanor and public notoriety is meant to accomplish two things: 1) it is a camouflage and a cover up of his fear of this very difficult fight and 2) build up pre-fight excitement to raise takes at the gates, from which he has a share. One thing he is is extremely nervous; one thing he is not, stupid! The more he yaps like a Pomeranian, the more he gets people to hate him; the more they would love to see him KOed.

Take away the hoopla and you have here a complete mismatch. Wladimir is far from being a Nic Valuev. He is no clumsy fool....and he is far from being stupid either.

David Haye is right. In the ring, none of this nonsense matters. The only thing that matters for him is "survival" which, unfortunately, would be an empty wish.
