Floyd Mayweather Jr. Quotebook: Manny Pacquiao submits to tests, then we fight

Michael Marley

Boxing Examiner

Gigantic if not pedantic Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. quotebook from his New York City press conference with Vicious Victor Ortiz (all quotes guaranteed verbatim, sniper-like analysis to come later):

I, Michael L. Marley, personally asked Floyd if he “respects” what Manny Pacquiao has done with his life away from the boxing ring.

But Mayweather kept his bat on his shoulder.

“That’s Manny Pacquiao’s business, not mine.”

“Floyd Mayweather doesn’t duck or dodge anyone.

“I never once said (Manny) Pacquiao is cheating.”

“Do I want the (Pacquiao) fight? Absolutely.”

(On hurting his legacy by not fighting Manny) “No gap (there).”

(On his many fistic skills) “I’m God gifted.”

(Implying that Bob Arum rips Pacman off) “You hear a fighter is getting $20 million, then you check and you find out he’s really getting $6 million.”

(More on Arum, sarcastically) “Bob Arum, all he needs is a hug…”

(On people criticizing his recent foes) “When I fought Mosley, he was the Number 2 guy…but then I fight Mosley and they say, he is too old or they say (Juan Manuel) Marquez is too small. I don’t think I can get my just due.”

(Comparing ad nauseum baseball banned drug user Barry Bonds to Pacquiao…somehow) “A guy can come from another country to our country and do it, no problem but when Barry Bonds does it, it’s hold on.”

(On drug cheats in other sports) “It’s in track and field, it’s in baseball…and it’s in boxing.”

On why he’ll fight Ortiz Sept. 17 after a 16 month hiatus: “I miss the sport.”

Why he left promoter Bob Arum: “I left him because I wanted to be my own boss.”

On his overall media coverage: “My kids are older now and it’s not right.”

“All I’m saying asking…if y’all want the fight to happen…let’s both step up and take the test.”

(Back to media coverage) “The media, for 15, 16 years…you’ve kept me relevant.”

(Re Arum backing handwrap cheater Antonio Margarito) “Panama Lewis, he got banned for life but Arum wasn’t for him, a black trainer…but Arum was for Margarito…”

(Possibly losing his precious unbeaten status to Pacman) “If you beat me, I want you to earn it. I don’t want it to be tainted.”

(Banging Arum again) “I was the greatest to ever live when I was with Arum, then he says I’m dodging all these fighters, but they’re all Bob Arum’s fighters. That’s the Bob Arum was (caught) doing bribery…”

(On picking young, strong Ortiz) “I’m not getting no tune up against some ESPN fighter or some over the hill, 40 year old fighter.”

(On his legal cases, particularly the so-called “Baby Mama Drama” involving Jose Harris) “Because I’m in a contact sport, they say I am guilty…With the OJ case, with the Chris Brown/Rihanna case, you saw the pictures (evidence)…You guys have yet to see any pictures.”

(On his ring future) “I may fight 10 more times…This is not my last fight. I may give you guys 10 more fights…if I am able to, now I am closer to (age) 40 than to 21.”

(Message to in drug rehab Oscar De La Hoya) “Keep your head up.”

(Danger of banned drugs used in baseball as opposed to boxing) “That’s why I say we both take the test. They’re hitting balls with bats but we’re hitting bodies.”

(Ortiz being dangerous) “Victor Ortiz is a hungry guy. But I am always training (hard), pushing myself to the limit.”

(On changing from “Pretty Boy” persona to “Money”) “You can’t be (over) 30 years old and still be Pretty Boy.”

(On Pacquiao rising from 106 pounds to 150) “What if you saw me go up to fought a Klitschko?”

(On working with Golden Boy) “I wish Don King and Bob Arum worked (together) like Golden Boy and Floyd Mayweather Promotions. At the end of the day, it’s about the fighters and the fans.”

(His lover) “To Shantel Jackson, my better half…”

(Third reference to this) “I thank the media for keeping me relevant.”

(His promotional bright ideas) “I invented HBO 24/7…I said put my fights in the movie theaters…I told the MGM to put my mug (face) on every room key and on those ssssh (do not disturb) signs in the hotel also…”

(Shot at Pacman, Arum for ditching HBO to go with Showtime, at least on Manny-Mosley bout) “I am loyal to HBO, I would like to end my career with HBO…”

(On Ortiz agreeing to be tested at random) “I give it to Victor Ortiz for standing up to take the test.”

(On Ortiz’s big opportunity) “I made the opportunity, gave him a chance to take the throne and Victor stepped up to the plate.”

And that is the World According to Floyd Joy Mayweather, Jr., June 28, 2011.

Last time I heard Manny agreed to a random blood testing. Floyd is just trying to get rid of one of many legal issues his facing. By twisting things around. Good luck Floyd...

Hey FM, PAC gave you the opportunity to step to the plate,
and get one of his thrones, choose one from 8 crowns,
or wait a litle longer and combat in the geriatric division LOL
