Miguel Cotto set to make between $5m and $7m - Margarito to make $2m

By Rey Colón -The Sport Press

Bob Arum, Miguel Cotto and Cotto’s legal counsel Gaby Peñagaricano met Tuesday night to finalize the last details in his contract to be signed sometime this week to formalize the rematch between Cotto and Antonio Margarito on December 3 in New York City’s Madison Square Garden. The WBA junior middleweight champion will earn between $5 and $7 million, not including his share of the pay per view. “The Tijuana Tornado” is in line for about $2 million. According to reports, Cotto and Arum, who had already sealed the deal with a handshake, discussed the remaining points left in the air and allegedly after reaching an agreement satisfactory to both sides, shook hands again and the deal will be inked in the coming days.

He'll get this done and will go after a rematch with Paquiao. If by any chance Pac refuses to give him a rematch, Im sure they could cut a deal with Floyd.

Hey guys.... Just one quick question... how can a guy take 2 mil and his opponent 5 mil, when the guy taking 2 mil, just beat the crap outta the guy making 5 mil????
Margarito must be punchier than I thought... 2 mil? he will walk away with less then 1 mil when the bills and taxes kick in.
He has to be completely brain damaged.

Cotto is a belt holder at 154 and probably the fight will be for it.I consider margarito hit the jackpot by getting two million to fight.

Good point Ramon..... belt holder should definitely get more.
Margarito keeps fighting for belts.. he is making dough... but at a big cost.
Wonder if he has passed the eye tests yet.

Margarito is blessed by getting two little fights in a row after being banned from boxing for cheating. There is a strong doubt about the so called beating he gave Cotto. This fight will be his opportunity to clear himself from all misunderstanding concerning his use of plaster of paris in some of the fights he won in the past.

By Jason Kim: Former two-time welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KO’s) and Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KO’s) will be fighting a rematch in the summer months in fight that will take place in either New York or possibly in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The ideal place for the fight is in New York, which would be ideal because it would take advantage of the large Puerto Rican population that would likely flock to see Cotto fight Margarito in their rematch.
Margarito and Cotto previously fought in July 2008 with Cotto being knocked out in the 11th round by Margarito. However, the venue that they would like to fight the rematch in, Madison Square Garden, is reportedly undergoing renovations right now and that might make it difficult for a fight to be made in the summer.
The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada is keen on putting on the Cotto-Margarito fight and no doubt see the huge amount of fans that this fight would draw. However, Margarito doesn’t have a boxing license in the state of Nevada and has previously been rejected for one in the state.
For that fight to take place in that venue, the Nevada Athletic Commission will have to grant Margarito a boxing license to fight in their state. In an article at Philboxing.com, Lee Samuels of Top Rank had this to say about Margarito getting licensed in Nevada: “If not, we’ll find someplace else.”
The only place where Margarito is licensed to fight is in Texas. However, Cotto vs. Margarito isn’t a big enough fight to put in the Texas stadium. They would have to pack the card with a lot of other fighters like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the Cotto –Margarito fight to bring in big enough numbers to justify putting it back in the Cowboys stadium.

This fight should never happen... look at the picture.... Margarito is a blind man.... he is completely damaged goods...
Any state that gives this guy a license should secede from the Union.... its hightway murder... just as bad as Anthony.
I like Cotto as a boxer,, but question his fight with Mayorga and with this washed up fighter.
Cotto will make NO points with the public and with his reputation... he should be fighting RANKED fighters...
not washed up ones like the last one and this one.
I would NOT pay to see this... expect to see Margarito walk in with a white cane!
Vegas would show Rocky Marciano vs Mr Magoo! They are the biggest whores in the world! Do anything for money.
How can you license a blind man?
Come on Cotto... fight somebody ranked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not a blind has been!! Go up a couple pounds and fight Martinez in P.R.
Sorry Fib... just my opinion.... and everybody else's.

rudeeeeeee, I concur, Manny should put up a few pounds and fight Cotto. 152 pounds should be the catch weight for both. This fight should take place in San juan Coliseum. He made Cotto go down to 145 pounds the first time so let him come up to 152 and get it on.

Thought you would agree Fib... this poor guy is gone... he made tons of dough in his big 3 fights...hope he still has it.
Cotto is gonna really hurt this guy.. I will bet you the ref will be looking closely at that eye... stop it immediately if it swells or looks bad.
And you know Cotto will be going for it... thats boxing..
And actually guys,,, from what i read when they checked his eyes here,,, the other eye is really bad too.
Cotto is a damn good fighter... I like him. Has big bolas... Would love to see him fight good ranked fighters.
Wasting his time with this one.
Dunno if Manny can do 152.. he just is not that tall. He looked small against Mosely.
Wonder when Martinez is gonna fight again.. still living off the williams knockout.

I dont think we will ever see manny at any weight over 150 due to he has said it before that it makes him feel slow with more weight.I believe he mentioned this in his comments after the margarito fight which he fought at 145.
