It seems that the dongle works only in 2.5ghz band. I tried the 5ghz band but it doesnt work.

It should see your dongle, a dual band router should see any WIFI device, unless the router is set to 5 GHz only.

The xfta doesn't have dual band or 5 ghz only 2.5 ghz

The type/brand of router you have will help us a bit.

In order to use 5 ghz on a dual band router you have to have a 5ghz or a dual band network adapter to connect to.

The type/ brand is wireless g router originally loaded w/ dd-wrt software and is 802.11G (B does work) and looking at the specs is only capable of 2.5GHz for the single freq.
