PUDGE INTRODUCED AS NEW NATIONALS CATCHER
THE SPORTS NETWORK
Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals officially introduced catcher Ivan Rodriguez on Friday after agreeing earlier in the week on a two-year, $6 million contract.

The 38-year-old Rodriguez is expected to serve as a backup to Jesus Flores.

"The Nationals were a team that came to (me) to show up to play, pretty much on an everyday basis," Rodriguez said. "That's what I was looking for -- to play two more seasons."

A 14-time All-Star and 13-time Gold Glove winner, Rodriguez split last season between Houston and Texas and batted .249 with 10 homers and 47 RBI. He started the season with the Astros before being dealt the Rangers in August.

In his career, spanning 2,388 games with Texas, Detroit, Florida, the Yankees and Houston, Rodriguez is a .299 hitter with 305 homers and 1,264 RBI. He won a World Series in his lone season with the Marlins in 2003.
