View Full Version : Dual LNB on a single receiver

Hello all,

I have a question about running a Dual LNB in a 1 receiver setup. Trying to setup my new reciever, the dish I picked up came with a Dual LNB. I was able to get the dish pointed but it seems that the Dual LNB only works when both ports are connected to a receiver. I only want to run 110 off 1 port and not use the 2nd port for the time being. I always thought that a dual LNB can support 1 or 2 dishes, not 2 dishes only. Here is the setup.

When I connect port 1 to my Dreambox, and Port 2 to a BEV receiver, the dual LNB works. I get the 110 signal on my Dreambox and the channels work. As soon as I unplug the BEV receiver from port 2, the signal dies on the Dreambox.

I tested the same thing on my BEV setup where I have 2 separate subbed BEV boxes. As soon as I unplug receiver 1 from the switch, receiver 2 goes down with it automatically.

Would it just be easier to get a single LNB for this setup instead?

.. lots of questions but before we can answer most of them we jave to identify your lnb ... is it a dish pro , have a large dpp logo on the back and looks like 2 big fish eye togather ? How many ports does it have ?

hi stan, no it is not a dispro LNB. it is a Ariza GK532-30 with 2 ports.

That lnb is definitely not behaving as designed - does the problem persist if you switch ports/receivers ? How long is each cable to receiver ?

try swapping ports. put the dreambox on port 2 and leave port 1 empty.

The Ariza GK532-30 is a legacy LNB, it uses +13 and +18 volts DC to switch between the transponders polarity's, this means you have to select the correct settings for that type of LNB on both receivers or the two will fight for control of the LNB if one or both are set wrong.

Someone that has a Dreambox receiver will have to help you with that.

Also some legacy LNB's wont run 2 receivers at once, you have to use an external switch..

I think Terryl is correct. You may need to place a simple 3x4 multiswitch on that LNB. Also with 2 receivers on that LNB the cables will need to be grounded. If you add the switch, it will need to be grounded as well.

You mention that you tested the Dreambox on your bev setup and a switch was involved. What switch?

The type of LNB you have ( DUAL ) is the correct type of LNB. A single output Legacy LNB is rare and would limit you to 1 receiver.

Yep need a simple 3x4 multi-switch such as a zinwell SAM-3402 connected to that dual legacy lnb. You will have availability for 3 other receivers as well, just for the future.

sorry there may be some confusion here.

This Ariza LNB is on my 24" Dish that is pointed to 110. No other LNB's are on this dish, and I only want to run 1 receiver off this LNB. I used my old ViewSat receiver to help me point the dish to 110, but I was only able to see the 110 signal when I had 1 port connected to the ViewSat, and the other port connected to my BEV receiver. I was able to catch the 110 signal, but as soon as I would unplug the BEV receiver from the LNB, the signal would fade away.

Testing this theory I then connected the Dreambox to port 1, and the BEV receiver to port 2, and the dreambox started working and I was able to watch channels. I unplugged the BEV receiver from the Ariza LNB, and the signal died again. Doesn't really matter what port I put the dreambox on, it only saw the signal when i had both ports of the LNB connected to a receiver.

Basically what I'm trying to find out, is why the Dreambox will not pick up the signal when it is the only receiver plugged in to the LNB? I've tried swapping the LNB's but still have the same issue.

Do you have the Dreambox set to ON for power to the LNB ?

OK, now all of a sudden it's working. I left the LNB disconnected for a few days. Now when I just plug the Dreambox in to the LNB it works!

Thanks for your suggestions!

BEV rec. can not work with any 4x1 switch. Can't recognize it.Same like Dik rec.
Have to be straight LNB -BEV receiver
