Well there are a few other questions.
1. What size of dish do you want. With a Limesat HD that's capable of decoding DVB-S2 I would want a 10' dish, with a dual C/Ku LNBF (you'de be looking at around 1000 100% free & legal channels)
2. If all I had room for was a Ku Dish I would get a 1.2m, & a good linear LNBF like a ESX521
hxxp://www.galaxy-marketing.com/ESX521-ku-band-fta-free-to-air-lnb-lnbf.htm
All of this is ready to go with the factory file...
I'll say when I watch TV, I spend more time on C band then Ku. C Band you really need an 8' minimum

You can only use it as a hack box with your current set up...Then you will need a file

by hack box you mean connecting to a public server. i dont know if thats really safe? I dnot know? Did you say 10 foot dish in your previous post.

Yes & yes... yes on the Public & a yes on a 10 foot dish
IKS is as safe as it is...I can't comment as to how safe it is...I don't know. A file is safer, but there isn't a file to crack N3 & it's doubtful that there ever will be

Na, check on craigslist or drive around your neighborhood. I have 3 in use...If you feel like making a drive I'll give you one...LOL seriously
You will need a actuator & do some minor repairs.

That is a great starter, but it will only make you want more. You'll pick up 500+ channels, but many will be in a foreign language

BUD's (acronym: Big Ugly Dish) can be stationary, but typically they are all motorized. The stationary BUD's are typically sold for a program package only. Some do not come with a polar mount. (the part to put a motor on)

Yep, but I can't think where it is...wait until Satchick chimes in, We do have a pretty good resource here
I moved this thread to the True FTA section & your answers are in red above

They're not too bad to work on once you see how everything goes together.
Here's a nicely done site that covers the basics:
http://www.hooktech.co.nz/files/file/Help_Files/Hooktech_DIY_Cband_GndMnt.pdf
Keep in mind that the guide is written by an author in New Zealand, so the satellite tables on the last few pages won't apply to us. He's also using a stationary dish, but a motorized will be very similar.

I have one 10' dish set up, I have two more not in use, Yet. I bought one 30" dish. But found an old primestar dish at an old house scheduled for demo. My point is; you can find BUDs ( big ugly dishes) for free. One elderly lady almost cried with happiness when I agreed to take the dish,the post and fill the hole. Measure the diameter of the dish in several locations to see if it is round and not warped. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to fta but I'm learning more daily .

B = Big
U = Useful
D = Dish
