Do those inline signal amplifiers (no external power) claiming to boost by 20dB or even 30dB costing about $10 work?
Trees reduce my signal so s/q for some channels keeps fluctuating. Will adding those help?

Signal amplifiers ( unless very expensive $250 + ) do not work with sat stbs .

Inline amplifiers are a waste of money. They amplify noise. And it isn't the solution for your issue in any case.
When trees or other obstacles actually block or interfere with a signal, you need to move the dish or trim the trees. That's the solution.

If they are deciduous trees (lose their leaves), you'll see the signal get better in the winter.

... a bigger dish might increase Q slightly... Try dishpointer.com to see if there is a better place to position the dish from your location .

In-line amps are intended to make up for coax loss of signal with long runs of cable. They work for what they were designed to do, but if your signal is poor where you pick it up there is no amp that can cure that as noted in above posts. In-line amp can also lead to a poorer noise-figure in a receiver and that can be a very bad thing with satellite systems. You usually see in-line amps for OTA antennas being sold as a way to get clear signal, but usually they are not needed.

Signal amps are just that. They do nothing for Quality. They help the receiver to change the polarity of the LNB (13v/18v) in a very long cable run situation.
