Poor transportation infrastructure is blamed for Vancouver dropping to No.3 on the list of the world's most livable cities.

The best place on earth? Not any more.

Vancouver has dropped out of the No. 1 spot among the world's most livable cities.

It's the first time in a decade our West Coast city hasn't been tops among the most globally envied cities.

Instead, it's dropped to No. 3, behind Melbourne, Australia, and Vienna, Austria, according to the latest ranking from the Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Livability Survey.

The culprit? Not our recent spate of poor weather, unsustainable housing prices, drug and gang problems, or even the Stanley Cup riot, but our failing transportation infrastructure.

Increased traffic congestion brought the city's score down by 0.7 per cent.

Canadian cities generally fared well in the report, as did Australia's urban areas.

Toronto and Calgary were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, and shoring up Melbourne's No. 1 spot were Sydney at No. 6, Perth at No. 8, and Adelaide at No. 9.

Finland's capital Helsinki and Auckland, New Zealand, also made it into the Top 10.

MOST LIVABLE CITIES OF 2011

1. Melbourne, Australia

2. Vienna, Austria

3. Vancouver, Canada

4. Toronto, Canada

5. Calgary, Canada

6. Sydney, Australia

7. Helsinki, Finland

8. Perth, Australia

9. Adelaide, Australia

10. Auckland, New Zealand

Plus the fact that their hockey fans are the biggest cry babies in any sport....save Montreal of course.

Actually I find your country beautiful and its people great. Three cities out of the worlds top ten, um, I would consider this a invitation.

It's not Vancouver anymore it is Hongcouver and it is nothing like it used to be 20 years ago. I moved from there because it turned into a craphole with over priced housing and homeless people all over the place.
