By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan can stop calling out Floyd Mayweather Jr., because Floyd gave him the path to a fight with him yesterday, telling ESPN “You’ve got a one guy...

It is what they call "posturing". Mayweather is doing a "marketing job" for his promising protege, Jesse Vargas. It appears that Scott Gilfoid's (or Gilford) of boxingnews24 pockets are lined by the wily promoter. How else could you explain his twisted perception about a Khan/Vargas fight prospect?

Boxing is a business for promoters. No matter how talented a prospect is (like Vargas), the road to stardom is a long tough winding road. To suggest a fight between his boy and Khan is to catapult his protege to center stage at which he is totally undeserving. With only 16 fights under his belt against virtually unknown "B/C" tiered boxers, and a dismal 9 KO record, Vargas, or Mayweather, for that matter, is in no position to clamor to climb the ring with Amir Khan. (This writer, Scott, does not know his elbow from his palm the way he deifies Vargas and belittles Khan.) What is he basing his strong bias in favor of Jessie Vargas - that one KO in the 2nd round against Walter Estrada? (The guy lost his balance and got caught with a well-timed left cross.) At only 22, Jessie Vargas needs to develop greater dexterity in the ring. He could not rely solely on strength. He does not have enough speed and agility. He would be a pepper steak for Amir Khan.

Besides, what drawing power does he have? Sure, he is a talented young boxer but outside of the industry, he is a relatively unknown. A fight against him presents a horrible risk/benefit ratio. Mayweather could blow his horn as much as he likes but there is no way a sports businessman would ever entertain the possibility of a 0% benefit against a 100% risk proposition.

Scott, go back to your cave, eat popcorn, and don't touch that keyboard.

Right on with that aqua----all this time away and here we go agreeing right off the bat....shamefull. However.......LOL...Khan will not fight Vargas because of the "no reward" is quite true....but he`d (Vargas) would pose a big threat to Khan re Khan`s defensive liabilities. Vargas is the real deal (although young and inexperienced) with a very strong left that may spell a lot of trouble for Khan.

Shameful indeed, mon ami! But now, we get back into fencing! I agree Vargas is very promising. He is young and strong. However, ......and here is where we part company...... he is not (YET) in the same calibre of Amir Khan. He will eat lots of leather with Amir's speed and skills. Vargas is blowing his horn because he knows that IF he is given the chance to mix it up with Amir Khan, it would be a WIN/WIN situation for him. He would make serious money AND he will be thrust into CENTER STAGE - even if he losses! On the other hand, it would be a LOSE/LOSE for Khan.

However, all of this is pure speculation. You won't see a Khan/Vargas match; not in the next foreseeable future. You may not even see a Khan/Mayweather after Sep 17! Hehehehe!

Shamefull is right buddy LOL...we really didn`t part company because I`ll agree that his inexperience keeps him out of Khan`s league just yet. And I`ll agree that Khan can hit him with a lot of leather-----but that left of Vargas can change everything in a split second because Khan does not fight well under duress. LMAO----but we`ll probably never know , at least not for a while...........but wait, after "a while" that would mean Vargas would be more seasoned...hmmmmmmm.......

Don't think Khan will last that "while", someone is on the way to take him out. Of course he'll never see PBF, he's not good enough. Unless Roach and Ariza are whiling to bleed and put up the right amount of $$$ to attract PBF's attention. This is the cause of the writing on this thread, pure speculations..............

By William Mackay: While WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan would love to have a big money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., he’s not the type to want to face a dangerous puncher like Jessie Vargas (16-0, 9 KO’s) to get that shot. Boxing fans may not be too familiar with the 22-year-old Vargas right now, but they will be in the near future.
Vargas is a big puncher who is going to be a future star in the light welterweight division. Right now, he’s still working his way up to the big time fights. However, his promoter Mayweather Jr. is giving him a big opportunity by trying to lure Amir Khan in for a fight against Vargas.
Mayweather Jr. recently told ESPN that he would agree to fight Khan after Mayweather’s September 17th fight against Victor Ortiz if Khan takes on Vargas. It can’t get any easier for Khan if he wants a straight path to a big money fight against Mayweather. However, the catch is Vargas is the exact kind of guy that Khan has major problems with.
Vargas can punch with amazing power on the inside and the outside with his powerful left hook and sneaky right hand. His left hook reminds me of Nonito Donaire’s left hook in that it’s always devastating. Vargas’ right hand is more of a sneaky weapon because he doesn’t load up with it all the time, but when he does it’s huge and catches his opponents off guard.
Against Vivian Harris, Vargas basically mugged him in close with a powerful body attack. When the round was almost over, Vargas caught Harris with a crushing right hand that staggered him and bloodied his nose. In between rounds, Harris quit on his stool rather than risking going out for the second round and getting annihilated by Vargas. Khan doesn’t do well against guys like Vargas.
This would be like fighting Breidis Prescott and Marcos Maidana. I’m sure Khan wants the Mayweather payday fight, because he’ll get a ton of money even in losing the fight, which he will obviously lose. But if Khan faces Vargas, Khan will have a high possibility of being knocked out. And Mayweather Jr. goes ahead still fights Khan, that would be yet another loss for Khan.
It would be kind of a joke by then where no one would be able to take Khan seriously. Vargas would be the start of Khan’s downfall and Mayweather would be the finisher. That’s why I don’t see Khan taking the fight against Vargas despite it leading to a Mayweather money bout.
Even under the best of circumstances for Khan, he’s going to get beaten up ugly by Vargas, and will look like one of the walking dead by the end of the fight. Khan already looked like he crawled out of a nuclear reactor in his life and death fight against Maidana. Vargas would do the same thing to do Khan, and possibly much worse because there won’t be a referee to pull Vargas off of Khan like there was in the Maidana-Khan fight. This Vargas kid can really punch and he makes a mess of people when he hits them.

Mackay like Gilfoid...Gilford....Gilfid...whatever.... pockets lined by Mayweather! Why is this guy still talking about Maidana? Khan is wearing Maidana's crown, isn't he? LOL

As for the comparison between Prince Ahmed and Khan...there is really none. Naseem Ahmed was a clown and an entertainer. It was his antics and crazy demeanor that won him fame. He had excellent boxing skills and historical records indicate that he could have been a legend BUT he did not take boxing seriously (like Khan). He hated "training" for a fight and relied on what he believed his "gift". Hence, his "natural gifts" remained raw and never honed. He lost to Barrera because he was intent on using only one tool - his knockout punch. It never came. He tried it in the 12th round but missed - just as he did during the first several rounds.

Khan, on the other hand, since he was an 11 year old boy, has taken up boxing very seriously. He still does as he hones his skills with Freddie Roach. There is a rivalry between US and UK boxers and it shows - which is why views about Khan are often skewed.

No doubt Aqua that Khan takes fighting very serious and trains hard for every bout much unlike The Prince who I detested.
And it`s true that you got the last laugh on me with the Maidana fight-----but by the hair of his chinny chin chin LMAO
Khan will get better (I think) defensively but till he does he`s very vulnerable to a hard left hand and he doesn`t react well when hurt. That means Vargas would/could spell a lot of trouble for Khan. Could be a great fight....Khan gets better defensively and Vargas gets seasoned...sounds good to me. But so does Khan getting dropped on his butt. LOL

I disliked "the Prince" - but I always wanted to see his fights. (By the way, he has just been let out of jail because of driving recklessly causing serious bodily injury; he also totaled his Mercedes sports car. He is now twice his size when he was featherweight champ.) I also dislike Cassius Clay - at the beginning - but also followed his every fight. Naseem was flamboyant and over his head - a wasted talent.

Yes, I recall how you called Khan to be KOed by Maidana...wel...almost! But what surprised you was how Amir dropped Maidana with a body shot! Khan is getting better by the minute!

Almost...counts for nothing..LOL we both know that and it was a hard fought well earned victory by Khan over Maidana. I wasn`t surprised that Khan dropped Maidana, I knew well his punching power---I was surprised it was so early tho. My only problem was Khan`s ability to recover when hurt---and I still question it. But you`re right Khan is getting better by the minute---and he`ll need to as he moves up in weight and class where his power may not give him a one hand victory anymore. he`ll win my vote when I see him hurt and defend. Roach will play big there.
I loved Cassius Clay even tho I originally thought his first Liston fight was staged but float like a butterfly sting like a bee won me over from the start. Khan, however has not.

"...see him hurt and defend..." That was in the past when boxers went in the ring with only one purpose ...mano-a-mano until one drops.

You won't see much of that today.....except with Manny Pacquiao...Miguel Cotto.....or George St. Pierre (but that is UFC). Many boxers are Mayweather copycats - "hit and run". Just look at the heavyweights and the notorious David Haye! Thus, they learn to hit, duck, and counter punch.....and escape or grapple. It is different now.

Ahh, yes you`re right aqua, fighting is different now but one thing remains the same.....no matter who you are you`re going to get hit, you`re going to get hurt...and you will have to defend for your life and career at some time or other. Or plan on spending some time on the canvas.... maybe on the biggest nite of your life wishing you`d have learned just one more thing on the way to your championship fight. It`s happened to the best of them.
