An abducted British Columbia boy, Kienan Hebert, was returned to his family home Sunday morning, the RCMP said.

Police are expected to provide further details about his return later in the morning.

On Saturday, the three-year-old’s family issued an emotional appeal for his return.

“We’re speaking to whoever has Kienan right now. We’re just asking, please bring Kienan to a safe place right now, like a gas station or a store parking lot,” said father Paul Hebert, as the boy’s mother, Tammy, cried.

Kienan was put to bed on Tuesday night wearing Scooby Doo boxers.

By Wednesday morning, he was gone. Initially, the family suspected Kienan had wandered off in his sleep. But those hopes faded as few clues to the barefoot-boy’s whereabouts surfaced.

An Amber Alert issued in B.C. on Wednesday turned up a handful of unconfirmed sightings of the boy.

As of Saturday up to 60 police investigators were working on the case.

http://www.calgaryherald.com/business/5395253.binRCMP have arrested child abduction suspect Randall Hopley near Crowsnest Lake this morning.

A press conference is being held in Sparwood this afternoon at 3 p.m.

Global News reported Tuesday afternoon that Randall Hopley was arrested by the RCMP in Alberta, just three kilometres from the B.C. border, earlier in the day.

Hopley is reportedly being transported back to B.C.

A police dog named Taz from the Kelowna RCMP detachment had been tracking Hopley through the night, and led officers to his location.

Police say he was hiding in a gravel pit just off the highway.

Police are not releasing other details, but there are reports Hopley was spotted running from an abandoned home near the Alberta-B.C. border, 20 km from Sparwood.

Police did not confirm if they are hunting for another suspect.

Hopley's mother Margaret Fink, 70, said news that police had her fugitive son in custody comes as a relief.

"I hope Randy will understand that he's got to get some help. I'm glad the little boy is back - I knew he wouldn't hurt the boy," she said from her home in Fernie.

"I'm glad he's back and I love him very much. I'm just waiting for when I can go and see him.

"I hope he talks to everybody and lets them know what they need to know. I just want some help for him. It's just a shocker."

haron Fraser, acting mayor of Sparwood, said she was "elated" to hear of Hopley's arrest.

Fraser — a mother, grandmother and great grandmother — said their small town has changed forever as a result of the traumatic events over this last week.

"All of us haven't slept in days," she said.

The safe return of Kienan Hebert, followed by Hopley's capture, is a great relief, but "it's going to take awhile to get back to normality," she said.

She added that residents, herself included, should start thinking about taking more precautions securing their homes.

As soon as the dust settles, Fraser said she's heading over to see the Heberts.

"I'm going to cry with them, and they're going to cry with me," an excited and emotional Fraser said.

Hopley, a 46-year-old convicted sex offender, was named as a suspect after Kienan Hebert, 3, was discovered missing from his family’s Sparwood home last Wednesday.

The boy reappeared, unharmed, in his vacant family home in the southeastern B.C. community of Sparwood early Sunday morning.

The toddler was left sleeping on an oversized chair as the abductor called 911 to inform emergency services of the child's whereabouts.

A day earlier, the family made a desperate plea for the safe return of Kienan, who was taken from the family home in the early morning hours of Sept. 7.

RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said Kienan "was virtually unharmed. . . . He does not have any physical injuries."
