Whatever happened to free trade with the US.. I ordered an item from the US value $110.00 us, I got a call this morning saying my item was in, and the brokerage fee is $60.00. this not only angers me, it is more than half of the value of the item, what can we do about it....Nothing, if i want my item I have to pay.......
with the upmost respect to my US friends, I will be shopping in Canada, sure I may pay a little extra, but not as much.....the $60.00 isn't the suppliers fee, it is the fee in getting it to Canada.......................A'h well
A Merry Christmas to All....................:hide:

This has always been the case with ups . Fedex pulls that stunt sometimes also. Last time I ordered a pair of bird banding pliers that I paid $15 the brokerage came to $45 . I refused it and told them to send it back - they waived the fee .
I would raise a stink , nothing ventured nothing gained . Whenevver I order anything from the states I specify no ups. If you're not in a hurry usps is best .
Good luck.

white,
does it say "made in USA" on the package, if so it's duty free due to the free trade clause.
what does it say the item is on the packaging slip? if it says gold bars, you'd pay the value of it. :D
all my ebay stuff says "used childern toys" or "golf balls" where the value is $1.00
thus no duty...
good luck and i hope you can still continue to purchase some quality stuff from the good ol' US of A.

The 60 is a brokrage fee - might have duty and tax in it but over $45 is to line their pockets . Probably cost next to nothing for the actual shipping.

Always be sure your item to Canada is shipped using the United States Postal Service and there will be no 'brokerage fees.' If the seller doesn't use the USPS, tell them why you won't be ordering from them. :)

Brokerage fees are only there to line the pockets of UPS and any carrier that the person is not aware of what happens when you order and have them ship for you.
It has nothing to do with duty as in most cases you will get a separate bill from customs "if" it is not duty free unless the brokerage firm looks after it i there fees..
Never and I say again NEVER order UPS from the USA..
Refuse the parcel and they will wave the fees as mentioned above.
If they do not wave the fees..Let them send it back and reorder and use USPS this time..lol
Cheers

Just to clarify you do have to pay a $5.00 handling fee with USPS plus any customs. <br />
The other thing with UPS you tell them you want to do your own brokerage. They complete the papers, you pick it up...

Usually when 'gift' is specified on a usps parcel canadian customs just rubber stamps it and lets it go.. Only drawback with the post office is that the parcel often sits at customs for 2-3 weeks.
