Body of Missing California College Baseball Player Found

The body of a missing 21-year-old college baseball player has been found, KABC reported.
Authorities said James Wernke, who went missing over the weekend, was found dead in a creek bed in Fullerton, California.
James Wernke, 21, was last seen at 1:30 p.m. local time Saturday leaving the house of his longtime girlfriend’s mother. The 6-foot, 4-inch, 190 lb. Santa Ana College baseball pitcher was at the house to walk the family dog, the paper reported.
Wernke reportedly left his wallet and keys at the house when he went out to walk the yellow Labrador in the rain. His cell phone is shut off, the paper reported.
Wernke had recently won a full baseball scholarship to Cal State Long Beach and was being courted by professional baseball teams, according to the paper.
Police had been searching the area for 48 hours. Wernke was described as wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops when he was last seen.
"Every hour that goes by, you worry a little more," James' mother, Sheri Wernke, told the paper on Monday.
Sheri and her husband Robert flew in from Colorado on Sunday to help with the search.
Lt. Alex Bastreri, a spokesman for the Fullerton Police Department, had said his department was operating under the assumption that Wernke "slipped and fell," according to the paper.
"He's a big guy, and typically not a target to be mugged or abducted," Bastreri said.
"The only thing that seems probable at this time is that there has been an accident – but, where's the dog?
"There have been no known threats made on his life. He doesn't party or drink or use drugs. He seems to have his life together. He doesn't have a lot of money – his parents would send him money, but he's not the type of person who would be carrying a lot of cash on him.”
Wernke’s girlfriend, Sami Bock, who attends the University of Long Island in Brooklyn, N.Y., flew to California on Monday to help with the search.
"None of this makes sense," Bock said, according to the paper.
"Everything is surreal right now."
She last heard from Wernke via a text message he sent her at 1:40 p.m. local time on Saturday. She said there was nothing out of the ordinary that he said in his text, the paper reported.
