Is it really over so soon?

Yes, Kim Kardashian has issued a statement confirming that her marriage to Kris Humphries is over.

"After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage. I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."

At first, after the news broke, the family was silent. Then her sisters hopped on Twitter to show their support.

"Our sister is going through a difficult time but we're a close family and are sticking together like always," wrote Kourtney.

And Khloe urged the Twitter community to be nice as the news spread.

"Reading some these comments r so hurtful. Im grateful 4our fans who understand & r being respectful. Hate is disgusting. Love is everything

Thank God for family. We are strong and we will only become closer! I love YOU"

Humphries, too, issued a short statement, saying,

"I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce," he said in a statement that made it sound like she didn't discuss it with him.

Ryan Seacrest confirmed the news earlier this morning that Kardashian was filing for divorce after a mere 72 days of wedded (un)bliss, apparently.

Tweeted Seacrest:

Yes @kimkardashian is filing for divorce this morning. I touched base with her, getting a statement in just a few mins

Kim, 31, cited "irreconcilable differences" in court documents filed today. The date of separation is listed as Oct. 31, 2011.

The documents confirm that the two had a pre-nuptial agreement. She listed "miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects" as well as "earrings and accumulations" amassed before, during and after her marriage as items that should be confirmed as separate property. Hmm, does that include her $2 million, 20.5-carat diamond ring, designed by Lorraine Schwartz?

And as Bravo exec Andy Cohen tweeted: "Do they have to return the gifts???"

Rumors of a rift between the newlyweds have been ramping up in recent weeks, after both the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and Humphries, 26, were spotted making solo appearances — often without their wedding rings.

Kardashian's stepfather Bruce Jenner told USA TODAY just three weeks ago that Humphries "loves Kimberly to death," but he added, "As time goes on, he may have to make some adjustments."

E! has issued a statement, saying:

All of us at E! are surprised and saddened by this news, and we send our support to Kim and Kris at this difficult time. The Kardashians have always been uniquely open with all aspects of their lives from joyous events to intimate moments to heartbreaking transitions. E! will continue to share the fascinating real lives and larger-than-life existence of this close-knit family.

In other words, the reality TV show must go on!
