I have a Toshiba Laptop loaded with Vista and it is running very slow. Do you all think if I reload with MS7, there will be a big improvement? Need help please to make sure that I'm doing the right things. If this is possible, I will just insert the CD of MS and it will replace the whole thing? Please help. Thanks so much.

Well is vista is running slow then installing windows 7 well make it worse since windows 7 needs more cpu and ram to run. You can always try reinstalling Vista and see if that help. Or you can check your startup items to see if there is anything there that might be slowing down your computer

Many thanks Kermit. In that case I will not install Windows 2007. I think instead of Windows 2007, I am contemplating MS Office only. I am new to this. If I just insert the disk, will that replace the whole thing and how will I start or is there any command to use? thanks again.

Windows 2007 is not an operating system, it is a word possessing program (MS office) replacing that will not make your laptop run any faster.

It's more then likely registry problems, do a Google search for CCleaner, (it's free) down load it from File Hippo, once installed click on the "Registry" icon to run the registry cleaner, then select fix all to clear out any registry problems, re-boot the laptop and see if it's running any faster.

Also an out of date anti-virus program could have missed something, check your AV program to see if its up to date.

And other things like "Spy ware" or Malware" can cause problems, you need to load "Malwarebytes" if you don't have an anti-malware program included in your AV program.

I think obenski means Windows 7...Windows 7 does run much smoother than Windows Vista btw

having said this, it would be probably easier to run a spyware and virus check to see if the current Win Vista install can be sped up

if your computer skills are novice, installing Windows 7 is prolly better left to a professional since you most likely want your data backed up, not erased and your programs to remain

on the other hand, if you want to start with a clean slate and don't care about the data on the laptop, then you can run the Windows 7 DVD by booting off of it and choose Custom (instead of Upgrade) option and then format your laptop's harddrive; this will erase your data

Hi,

Windows vista sucks.
However it's on there. What antivirus do you use?

Dump vista, it is the windows 98ME of modern computers. you can buy an OEM for around $90 . If your like most people i heard their is a pre cracked version of Windows 7 SP1 MultiEdition on most torrent sites. don't forget to back up your data. For some reason you want to keep vista run Spybot Search and Destroy scan and immunize.

Late to respond. See if you can add more memory. That can make a massive difference to how Windows runs if you are under 4G. If you want to run Win 7, then get as much as you can.

BTW. If you are looking for an office program, look at LibreOffice.org. It is free.
