ARENAS SCORES SEASON-HIGH 45 POINTS AS WIZARDS BEAT WARRIORS

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Gilbert Arenas finished with season highs of 45 points and 13 assists, as the Washington Wizards snapped a six-game slide with a 118-109 victory over the Golden State Warriors.
Four Wizards had double-doubles, as Caron Butler had 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Brendan Haywood ended with 15 points and 12 boards. Antawn Jamison, who played 36-plus minutes after suffering a stinger in his left shoulder, ended with 10 points and 10 boards in the victory.
On the other hand, the Warriors have now lost five in a row, as well as nine of 10 overall. Monta Ellis had 30 points to pace Golden State, which also got career highs of 27 points and eight boards from rookie Stephen Curry.
Golden State trailed throughout the fourth, and Ellis' bank shot with 2:17 left got the Warriors within 110-106. However, Arenas sank a layup and Butler hit a jumper. Then, with 1:05 left, Arenas made two free throws following an Ellis miss to make it a 116-106 game, and Washington held on from there.
Golden State began the game on an 11-1 run, which Curry fueled with seven points, but the Wizards countered with seven of the next nine points to stay close.
Later in the first, Nick Young capped a nine-point Washington burst with a jumper to make it a 26-22 Wizards lead, and they extended the margin to 39-31 going to the second.
Washington pushed its lead to double digits early in the new quarter, but near the midway point Golden State scored seven in a row, capped by a Curry three, to get within 47-46.
The Wizards held a 60-59 edge at the break, and the third quarter was back- and-forth until Washington ended it with two free throws each from Arenas and Young to take an 89-82 lead.
Golden State got within three, 100-97, on a Corey Maggette dunk nearly midway through the fourth, but Washington followed with six points to keep the Warriors from drawing even.

The Wizards have had two losing streaks of six games this season, but shot 50.5 percent and had a 47-39 rebounding edge Friday to avoid extending their current one...Curry made 5-of-9 from three-point range for Golden State, which got 23 points and eight boards from Maggette.
