OILERS WELCOME OVECHKIN, CAPITALS TO REXALL PLACE
THE SPORTS NETWORK
(Sports Network) - The Washington Capitals will bring to an end a four-game road trip tonight, when they take on the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

Edmonton has had recent overall success over the Capitals. The Oilers notched a 5-2 win at Washington last January 13 for their fourth win in the last six meetings.

The Oilers have lost the first two games of a four-game homestand, with those setbacks coming on the heels of a season-high five straight wins. Overall, Edmonton has lost four straight at Rexall Place and is 8-7-2 as the host this year.

The Oilers jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Thursday versus the Predators, but ended up skating to a 6-3 loss. Robert Nilsson scored twice and Lubomir Visnovsky had a goal and an assist.

"It's frustrating for all of us because we know we can play well. We've had some recent success so there's no reason why we shouldn't be a little more confident than we have been in the last two games," said Sheldon Souray.

Jeff Deslauriers gave up all six goals on 27 shots.

Washington is 1-2-0 on the swing, which began with a loss in Toronto before a 6-1 triumph over Colorado three days later on Tuesday. However, the Capitals dropped a 3-2 test in Vancouver last night.

Alexander Semin had a goal for the Capitals, but also failed to convert a penalty shot just moments after the Canucks took a 3-2 lead. Chris Clark also scored for Washington and Jose Theodore made 17 saves.

"I thought it was a great hockey game," Caps head coach Bruce Boudreau said. "Obviously I didn't like the outcome but it was a good hockey game."

Alex Ovechkin was held without a point for just the sixth time in 27 games this year and for the second time in his last five games. Tied for third in the NHL with 21 goals, Ovechkin had a goal and five assists in his previous three games.

Washington still enjoys a nine-point edge over second-place Atlanta in the Southeast Division, and with 48 points is one behind New Jersey and Pittsburgh for most in the NHL.

The Capitals are 11-6-3 on the road this year, but have lost seven straight in Edmonton. They haven't beaten the Oilers in Canada since February 7, 1996. The two clubs haven't met in Edmonton since a 4-0 contest on October 28, 2006.
