RANDOLPH STARS AS GRIZZLIES TOP NUGGETS

THE SPORTS NETWORK

Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Zach Randolph had a huge game with 32 points and a career-best 24 rebounds, as the Memphis Grizzlies got by the Denver Nuggets, 102-96, at FedEx Forum.

Rudy Gay added 19 points and Marc Gasol finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who defeated Indiana 107-94 on Friday and have split their last six overall. O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley each ended with 11 points.

"We believe we can beat anybody," said Gay. "We're going out and showing it. We're making a mark for ourselves and making a name for ourselves. In the future people are going to know Memphis is going to be one of those good teams in the West."

Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 41 points for Denver, which dropped two in a row after a three-game winning streak. Nene finished with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Kenyon Martin donated 12 points.

The Grizzlies led 80-67 after three quarters and held an 88-77 advantage after Randolph's bank shot with just under seven minutes left. However, Anthony bookended a 9-0 run with a three-point play and a pair of free throws to get the Nuggets to within two with 4;40 remaining.

After an exchange of baskets and Denver still trailing by two, 90-88, Randolph's three-point play and a Conley layup stretched the margin to seven with 1:44 on the clock. Denver didn't get closer than four the rest of the way.

Memphis jumped out to a 33-19 lead after the opening 12 minutes and began the second quarter on a 9-2 run and was ahead by a 42-21 margin after Mayo's layup with nearly 9 1/2 minutes left in the half. Despite a layup and pair of free throws by Anthony in the waning seconds, the Grizzlies were up by a comfortable 61-43 score at the break.

"They jumped on us early and it was a wake-up call," said Anthony. "They took advantage of that."

Anthony Carter's three-pointer with just under three minutes remaining in the third got Denver to within 72-67, but Gasol answered with a putback layup to send the Grizzlies on an 8-0 run to close the quarter.
