Over at NODQ.com and read this wonderful blog by Eric Kanes discussing the top 5 candidates that should end The Undertakers streak. The list is ok, but one candidate and his explanation for that candidate stood out to me.
I'm going to quote Eric Kanes' entire explanation here:
"Seeing this, I know you probably think I'm insane. However, hear me out on this one. I really feel that if done right, The Miz could easily become the top heel in the company for many years to come.
The story here should be that sometime in mid-January, The Miz comes out and says that ever since he debuted, he has never been able to get the respect of the fans. He started out as nothing and worked his way up to becoming United States Champion, but people still disrespected him. He overcame the odds and became WWE Champion, but people still disrespected him. He even won in the main event of WrestleMania but he was still disrespected. Now, he's going to do something nobody has ever been able to do and after that, people will have no choice but to show him some respect - he is going to defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania. He can point out that he's already 2-0 and after WrestleMania, he will be the new "Phenom."
In the coming weeks, have him hire Brodus Clay, Mason Ryan, and Ezekiel Jackson as his enforcers. All three of those guys would benefit from being partnered with him. Have The Miz say that this faction will destroy WWE until The Undertaker accepts his challenge. At that point, they can come out unannounced during the Royal Rumble and toss a bunch of people out, enter the Elimination Chamber as somebody is walking out and take all of the participants out, and even attack The Undertaker's brother, Kane. The Undertaker can eventually return and accept the challenge saying that he'll make Miz regret he ever messed with him.
However, on the week before WrestleMania, have Brodus Clay, Mason Ryan, and Ezekiel Jackson injure The Undertaker's leg. Teddy Long bans them from ringside at WrestleMania but it is too late. For the entire match, The Miz focuses on the injured leg and uses it to his advantage to end the streak. You can even have him grab the tights or put his feet on the ropes to add insult to injury.
I can just imagine the crowd rioting and starting "Bullsh##" chants now. This match would make Miz one of the most hated wrestlers in history. It wouldn't make Undertaker look that bad either because he wasn't in his best condition for the match. Miz can also start a streak of his own, except it would be the complete opposite of Undertaker's streak. Every year, people want to see Undertaker retain his streak. In this scenario, people would pay to see whoever is facing Miz destroy him. Every year, Miz could somehow find a way to come out on top until eventually, an up-and-coming face finally beats him.
Either way, even if you are a firm believer that The Undertaker's streak should never end, you can't deny that this match would do wonders for The Miz and WWE, because they will have created a new star."
I agree with a whole lot of what he said. But I kinda see a hole in that story-line. If Brodus Clay, Mason Ryan, and Big Zeke can injure the deadman, then why don't they just try to end the streak and gain the rewards for themselves? Another good scenario would be for all of the enforcers to get cocky and each challenge the Undertaker one-on-one on Raw or PPV's. Each are beaten by the Undertaker, but each match takes a toll on him.... and the Miz knows that. Finally the Miz challenges The Undertaker and they face off at Wrestlemania. Either the Miz wins due to Zeke's, Ryan's, and Clay's interference because they're still angry that they were beaten or Undertaker wins and fights them all off.
Either outcome would be filled with drama.
