Brandon Rios dropped his World Boxing Association lightweight title at the scales after failing to make 135 pounds.
And his bout with John Murray will only go on if he makes a weight limit Saturday morning that was negotiated between both camps.
Rios will only be allowed to gain 10 pounds before Saturday’s weigh-in; he must make 146.6 pounds by 9 a.m. Eastern Time.
Rios’ first weigh-in attempt came at about 5:10 p.m. on Friday, with him standing behind a towel and tipping the scales at 136.4 pounds. A moment later, he stepped back on the scale and saw the machine read 135.6 pounds, according to the figures announced by Michael Buffer.
He had an hour to lose the additional ounces. But his final weigh-in attempt showed him at 136.6 pounds; he’d not been able to make weight.
