Three-division world champion and the Pride of Puerto Rico Miguel Cotto got his revenge, dominating Antonio Margarito in their rematch by winning every round on route to stopping the rugged Mexican at the end of the ninth via a doctor’s ordered TKO. Margarito’s right eye was beaten completely shut. As was the case in their first fight, Cotto started out very quickly and boxed brilliantly to keep Margarito off balance and in the centre of the ring. The action became furious in the third as Cotto cut Margarito and both men went toe-to-toe in an intense and brilliant sequence that sent the crowd into a frenzy. The pride of Puerto Rico kept his foot on the gas and continued to out-box Margarito into the middle rounds. This time (unlike their first encounter) Cotto picked up the pace in the late rounds and Margarito’s eye began to swell shut. After Cotto swept nearly every round up to and including the ninth, the ringside physician called a halt to the bout before the beginning of Round 10 due to the serious nature of Margarito’s damaged eye. Cotto was awarded a dramatic and satisfying tenth round TKO victory to retain his title.

Great win... and kudos to Cotto for a super game plan...
Was sad to see Margarito a shot fighter... he really should not be allowed to fight anymore....
he is a one eyed punching bag... does not belong in the ring.. will end up blind.
Mayweather or Chavez Jr next for Cotto? Thats what the press says here.
Rios looked devastating... so did Rodriguez... two excellent boxers.

The question is, Could have Cotto pulled this of if it wasn't for Manny softing up Margarito first? Maybe it should be rephrased as, "Manny busting up Margs eye to the point of no return". Maybe Cotto should send Manny a nice thank you card for making this possible for him?

Yogi you are just trying to to find an excuse because margarito loss.You have to give cotto the credit for the win.I did not see his face busted up as bad as the first time.No loaded gloves this time.If I were to speculate the same way I would say paquaio should thank floyd for beating up marquez before he fought him.Who knows if it never happened maybe he would of lost.Lets not forget mosley koed margarito also before his fight with pacquaio.Margarito has not recovered since that lost and made it easier manny so he could send him a card too.

To tell you the truth, I am glad Cotto won. I have always been a fan of Cotto. I just like to get Fib's goat every now and then. I agree, Marg is a cheater, but I don't think this fight proves that he had loaded gloves in their first fight. I do agree that since he got caught with loaded gloved in the Mosley fight, there is a good chance of him having loaded gloves in other fights, but we will never know if they were loaded in their first fight. I think the biggest difference in the two fights is, Cotto did as much better job of avoiding most of Margs punches and he came forward this time when he was punches. That allowed him to get much better leverage on the punches. In the first fight, Cotto just ran backwards and threw punches while moving backwards. That took all the pop out of his punches and allowed Marg to get his full leverage on his punches. This fight was different because Cotto didn't allow that to happen.

There is some truth in my statement though. Cotto targeted most of his punches on that eye. If Manny would have never busted it up the way he did, Cotto would have never targeted it the way he did.

As far as who has the best looking old lady, well the proof is in the pictures. :thumbsup:

I think all you guys are right... Cotto fought an extremely good fight...
Margarito is damaged goods...
A little of both added to this drama.... it was an entertaining one sided fight.
Shoulda stopped it a couple rounds earlier.. especially with a broken eye socket from before..
But Cotto surprised me with his stamina... he fought the exact fight Mosley did against Margo... cept Mosley use to hit harder.
Both fighters made tons of money.. good for both fighters.
Margo should retire before he starts looking like Mr Magoo.

hahahhahaaaa!! You fellows bust me up... What I do know is that I always knew Cotto is an elite fighter.. I hate to say Margarito is just a good old Mexican warrior..I love the discipline Cotto has.. Too bad he is not on the same league as Pacman.. That is another level that very few reach.. Too bad the Mayweather fight will never happen... JMO.........
We've done taken care of our first defeat, now Pacquiao is next. He and Arum stripped Cotto out of a walterweight championship using a catch weight tactic. We want Pacman to go up to 152 pounds and fight us once more. We already got a cheater without plastic of paris, now we want Pac without juice. The same Pac who fought Marquez. Cotto will beat Marquez any time, anywhere, Pac hasn't been able to do so. Cotto proofed he isn't done yet. Most likely Cotto wont sign with Toprank, he is pissed at the way thing are going, he showed it when he made remarks of not going anywhere to fight but NYC. Arum is a cheater's lover, we all know he favored Antonio over Cotto, he's done it twice. The contract expires on Dec 31st. We'll see what happens.

So if he drops TR then what? Does he go with GBP? If that is the case, he will never get another shot with Manny. TR and GBP are both like spoiled little brats and neither will let their fighters fight the other one's fighters. If he goes with GBP, he will more then likely have to fight someone like Canelo Alvarez. I don't see him getting a shot with Mayweather because Mayweather will say something like he doesn't want to fight Manny's scraps.

I've got news for you, Cotto's Promotions happens to be a very successful boxing joint in the island with a bunch of promising young pugilists. Maybe just maybe, like Floyd, he'll stay independent. This way we will finally go back to old times when championship events were executed here in the enchanted island. Oscar happens to live here, Milly's charm has kept him from moving. Only Manny can't Carrie his own bags.

I know that Cotto said he wants to rest for a few weeks before he decides who he wants to fight next, but realistically speaking, what money fights are there for Cotto at 154? I don't see any. I don't think Canelo would be the big money fight that he is looking for. I highly doubt Floyd would fight at that weight class, besides as much crap as Floyd has been talking about Manny fighting his scraps, I am sure he will use "fighting Manny's scrap" as an excuse not to fight Cotto. After the Margarito fight, Manny said that he wouldn't fight in that weight class again because it was too much for him, so I doubt he would go up there to fight Cotto, even if there was a catch weight. Sergio Martínez said that he would go down to 154 to fight Floyd or Manny, so Cotto maybe able to get Sergio to come down and fight him at that weight class. I am not to sure that would be the money fight Cotto is looking for either.

I think if Cotto wants a big money fight, his best bet would be to go back to 147. That is where all the money fights are going to be at. You have Ortiz and Berto, Cotto could take the winner of that fight. If he does that, it might even give him a shot at Floyd or Pac. After Khan fights this joke of a fight with Peterson, he says that he is moving up to 147. Marcos Maidana is moving up to 147. Marquez can easly fight anywhere from 140 to 147. Brandon Rios could probably fight anywhere from 140 to 147 as well. There is a lot of good fights and even money fights for Cotto in this weight class.

I agree rudee. A fight between Cotto and Marquez would be an awesome fight. It would be a huge payday for both fighters. In the was of size, look how these two match up...

We all know that Marquez doesn't have the coordination or the footwork to get him in close enough against to be effective against taller fighters with a longer arm reach, but he excels against the elite fighters that are about his own size. I say it would be a war and a contender for the fight of the year. :thumbsup:

Well said again yogi... Cotto is short for his weight... he and Marquez would put on a hell of a fight... Marquez would go for it..
He would counter Cotto's shots... I think it would be a very interesting affair... I actually think Marquez would be more the aggressor in this fight.
Agree with your assessment of Marquez fighting bigger men... but guys his own size he nails with the right hand lead.
Cotto is not a knockout puncher so Marquez wouldnt have to worry about getting dropped by one shot...

Max would be Welterweight...Hey Cotto agreed to that weight and if Pacman will agree to fight him again it will have to be at that same weight.. I remember De la Hoya thinking he was going to be a cake walk.. Look what happened to him... And Cotto.. I would just hate to see Cotto get permanently injured if he fights him again.........As I really like Cotto as a man and a fighter........

Without a doubt the Cotto that beat Antonio would've beaten the Pac that fought Marquez any day. Ever since the wake up call from the Mayweather family we've seen a different Manny. Ariza stopped the juicing, maybe scared of getting caught. The statement made by Roach, Manny will stay at 147 pounds, told the hole story. Cotto will get better yet with his new trainer and will come with many surprises in the near future. Arum owns Miguel a rematch. Do you really think that Manny can hurt Cotto in 152 pounds, when he couldn't knock Marquez down once in his last fight?

You are way underestimating Marquez. It would be a totally different fight. Outside the the huge weight advantage, Mayweather had a 5" reach advantage. Marques doesn't have the coordination or the footwork it takes to get in close enough against fighters with that much of a reach advantage. The weight was also another big factor in the fight. Marquez doesn't have to worry about a reach advantage with Cotto. In order for Cotto to be able to land his punches, he has to get into Marquez's danger zone. No fancy footwork required. No, I don't think that Marquez should fight him at 154 or 152. The fight should happen at 147. I don't think that Manny or Marquez should be fighting over 147. I am not even convinced that Cotto should be fighting at 154. How many true Light middle weight fighters has Cotto fought in that weight class? There was just one, a powerless, one legged Yuri Foreman. There was no risk in that fight. As far a Mayorga goes, he lost half of his fights after moving up to 154.

There is nothing in the 154 weight class for Cotto. If he wants another big payday, he is going to have to go back to 147, because that is where all the big money fights for him are at.

As far as Roach's statement, it was actually Manny that said that first, when they asked him in the post fight interview of the Margarito fight if he was going to stay in the 154 weight class, Manny said no. He said it was too much for him and he wouldn't be fighting anymore fights in that weight class.

Miguel is on the top of his division at this moment, on the contrary Pacquiao is not, actually he is behind PBF. Cotto will not go down to fight Marquez, he will rather go down to fight the one that beat him once to try to get another revenge, this way clear his record. Some here said Cotto was washed out and Roach and Manny had no interest in fighting him. Eat your words, Miguel is back on top and ready to make some money. Marquez is not the target when we can get a fight with PBF,Pac or even Martinez. I'm confident that we can beat either Pac or Martinez, Floyd is a lot more difficult to beat for he is the best of the trio. Everyone knows that. Let Cotto enjoy his family especially his wife Melissa and make some very important decisions about his future in boxing now that he's on top. With only one clear loss in his record, he can decide to part from Arum and fight anyone he wants at anytime and anywhere. Europe has a very good breed of boxers and if the money is good, we can incur in that market. Getting away from the cheating world of Topchit.
