WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross made his weekly appearance on the Sean Pendergast show on Yahoo Sports Radio on Saturday morning. The interview will be available later today at Yahoosportsradio.com/podcasts/. The following are the highlights of the interview.
-Ross joked that the difference between the Mr. McMahon character and NBA commissioner David Stern is that Stern has a forgiving gene. Ross said he doesn't understand why Stern was able to overturn the controversial trade. He said the deal made a marquee team better and got the NBA on the front page again.
-The talk turned to college football and the Oklahoma Sooners. Ross said Oklahoma State was simply the better team when the two teams met. He said the most disappointing part was that Oklahoma lost a fight. He said it was essentially over at halftime. Ross noted that ticket sales for the Oklahoma bowl game have been dismal thus far. He also said he believes that the BCS got it right with the National Championship Game.
-Ross named C.M. Punk as the wrestler of the year. "He's the hands down choice to be the Superstar of the Year," Ross said. He said Punk has made people talk about the business and has brought people in or back to WWE.
-Ross said Robert Griffin III would get his vote for the Heisman Trophy Award.
-Ross hyped the Slammy Awards for Monday and joked that the host might be a write-in candidate. Ross also noted that he never won a Slammy, yet Michael Cole has won two. "What's up with that?" Ross joked to close the segment.
Ross also said UFC is on the verge of pay-per-view overload. He was fair and said WWE may be in the same position. Ross also noted that there is free shipping on a JR's BBQ products package at the WWE website.
