Posted by By Chris Williams: WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be able to fight on May 5th after all. Earlier today, Mayweather attended court to have his 90 day jail sentence, which was supposed to start today, delayed until June 1st, and it approved.
However, Bob Arum, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao’s promoter, still isn’t interested in matching Pacquiao up with Mayweather on May 5th, even though Pacquiao is expected to be back in the ring in April or May. I guess this kind of tells you all you need to know about Arum’s interest in seeing his cash cow fighter Pacquiao fight Mayweather.
Arum is looking to match Pacquiao up with the following fighters: Miguel Cotto, Lamont Peterson, Timothy Bradley, and Juan Manuel Marquez next.
Previously, Arum had used Mayweather’s 90 day jail sentence as an excuse for why he couldn’t match Pacquiao up with him next. He said he wanted to make that fight next but since Mayweather was going to be serving a jail sentence, he would have to match his fighter Pacquiao with someone else. However, now that Mayweather isn’t going to be serving time until June, Arum reportedly is cool to the idea of matching Pacquiao up with Mayweather and is still going with picking one of the four fighters that he’s been looking at for the past couple of weeks.
In an article at Mlive.com, Arum responded to the news about Mayweather not serving his sentence until June 1st, saying “I don’t think it has any impact. No impact at all. Manny isn’t going to be ready to fight until summertime.”
Wow! Arum is now saying Pacquiao won’t fight until June or July? Before the Mayweather news came out today, Pacquiao was supposed to be fighting in April or May, but not all of a sudden Arum has changed this to the summer? How sad. I smell fear. Looks like Arum is keeping Pacquiao away from Mayweather. I’m not surprised because I think that’s reason we’ve never seen the fight in the past when the two fighters attempted to put a fight together last year.

Just read about this.. wonder if they would cut me a 5 month break?
anyway,, the talk on Yahoo is that Floyd vs Canelo on May 5th... they want a messican for Cinco de Mayo...(which is independance day from France for Mexico)
WHICH they do NOT celebrate in Mexico... as I have posted earlier..
Canelo would be EASY pickings for Floyd... he should do that fight if Manny doesnt want it.

If this happens you have to give him credit for fighting at 154 probably for canelo title.I would of liked him taking on cotto since he is stepping up to 154.

It's in the air, Manny is going down. Arum knows, he can't stop Manny from losing to PBF even Cotto is dangerous for the congressman. Since Ariza hasn't been able to feed Manny his doze, you've seen the obvious change.

As I said before, this fight isn't going to happen. It has nothing to do with fear, it has to do with money. There is no money in this fight. This fight may be a record selling mega fight, but it isn't going to be a mega fight like people think. Pac sells 1.4 million PPV's fighting Marquez. Both Floyd and Manny both want like 3 times or more then they would get for their top paying fights. The money is not there and because of that, there will not be a Pac/Mayweather fight at this point in time. There is more money to be made with less risk, if they fight bums. Might as well learn to enjoy watching Pac beating down Cotto again and Mayweather fighting some "C" to "C+" class fighter like Saul Alvarez. Maybe when both fighters get ready to retire, we will see the mega fight.

BTW. Floyd never setup a May 5th fight with the intention of making a Pac fight. He set it up because he knew he was going to me taking a plea and was going to get jail time. The date was leverage for less jail time. Nothing more or nothing less. He picked May 5th for 2 reasons. One reason was that he could say he needed time to train so they wouldn't give him much jail time. The other reason was because he could pick a Mexican which would draw a lot of Mexican fans. That would make Vegas a lot of money and everyone would be happy with Floyd getting off easy.

LAS VEGAS -- A judge agreed Friday to postpone a jail sentence against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a Las Vegas domestic violence case, allowing the undefeated boxer to make a Cinco de Mayo fight...

Dunno guys,,, according to this mornings news,,,, the only thing holding this thing back is that Manny is still healing from the eye cut he got
in the marquez fight and has not been able to spar... BUT,,, they say he could be ready for a fight with Floyd at the END of May.
Right before Floyd goes in the slammer.
According to the paper... the fight between Manny and Floyd is very close to happening.... should know next week.
Arum knows its a now or never thing... he is changing his tune. Up to Manny now.... (this is according to the paper over here.)
Stay tuned!!!

I'm over here listening to Javier Solis with Mariachis remembering the past when I read your post. Good news, finally Arum realizes that Manny is gone lose to someone soon so let it be the best, this way he can retire in peace. The doze collected in this one should be enough for both of them to retire. Good read rudee, as always.

Oh my God Fib!!! Javier is my all time favorite Mexican singer! Ya gotta pick up Javier Solis en New York!!! sings with the NY Philharmonic orchestra..
I have the album... see if you can get it... got most of the all time Mexican romantic tunes..... I was offered $100 bucks for it... use to be ya couldnt
buy it anymore... i am sure its out there now.

Back to boxing... just read on the internet most of what i said earlier... Arum knows that after Floyd does his time he might be damaged goods...
Floyd has been advised the same... plus the age factor... for both guys.
Arum apparently wants to see the fight while he is still alive. Cinco de Mayo is pretty much out. They wanted that date for the Mex/Americans
here that wouldnt know cinco de mayo from the Bolshevik Revolution. They just know its tequila and beer chaser time!!
Anyway.. we will know for sure next week... Hear say Floyd's camp said ok.... up to Manny.
Thats the latest from here.
donde esta rokko? hey guy,,, we miss yer input... we can't take things to heart here.. we have to listen and state our opinions and respect
others... when things start getting outta hand,,, we take a time out...
bottom line is... lets talk boxing with our heads and not our hearts. And... respect each others opinions.

Great parting comments, Rudee! Absolutely agree (on respect - while stating opinion). Actually, one rule in debates is "attack premise and conclusion - not the person (adversary)"! (Respect the adversary.)

There is a lot of mud-slinging out there - mostly directed at Arum, by Ellerbe, Dela Hoya, Richard Schaefer, who are obviously trying so hard not to be left out of this projected mega-dollar contest. The three are trying to earn points from Mayweather who decides whether or not he needs their help putting this fight together. (He is his own promoter.) Because of this there is conflicting report currently:
"NO, fight won't happen because Arum does not want it."
"Arum is afraid his cash cow would lose."
"The fight is closer than ever."
"Pacquiao is slated to take on Bradley."
"Roach wants Mayweather."

I once thought that it will not happen but I now think that based on current events, it's NOW or NEVER. All the other "proposed" fights or "tune-ups" do not make sense. Rematches do not create the same interest and intensity like "new" bodies in the ring. There were exceptions in the past - Ali-Frazier; Leonard-Hearns; etc.....

Hi aqua... good to hear from ya... hope rokko and el chido get back into the forum... miss their expert opinions.
well,,, seems to be what you and i posted.... its now or never! after jail time i think Floyd will be damaged goods...
don't listen to what they are saying... Arum is really trying to make this match... its the money that is stopping this.
The Floyd camp says YES... but wants the dough.
De La Hoya wants Alvarez to fight Floyd... which will not draw flies.... Alvarez has been fighting in Mexico... he would be 12-1 underdog.
From all i been reading on the street corner.... its all in Manny's corner. Hear he hasn't laced up the gloves once since Marquez.
BUT,,, he would be ready by the end of May... Floyd wants a BIG match before hitting the slammer. (just in case)
Gut feeling here is that the fight will be made. AND i think the judge is in on it!!! They musta told him the fight was in the
works and the taxes in Nevada.. which has the most foreclosures in the country.....would be astronomical.. along with the
hotels and betting..... so the judge said ok.... for the sake of Nevada..
When a big time judge gets in the act,,, ya know sompin BIG is in the works!!!
I think its gonna happen... but then...... hell, i been wrong most of my life!! ;-)
Play "Llorraras" by Javier Fib.... then knock down a shot of Don Julio!!!!
Happy New Year everybody!!!

Lloraras, Cataclismo, Mujer, Lagrimas De Amor,Nuestro Juramento...... so many. He's just unforgettable.

Back to the topic, no controversy here, now or never. That paycheck will make Floyd forget all his sorrows and make him the king of the slam. The problem is the money, everyone wants a big cut. Like you said, by next week we may have some good news. I always thought Floyd would make a move to stay out a while longer. Money talks and BS walks, it always did and always will. rokko read my signature, get back here... you're missed..

It's definitely a Pleasure to see this section thriving OnceAgain and my eyes have a feast going through Your posts Gentlemen!
Even though Arum is fighting an uphill battle in avoiding his cash cow to fight Mayweather before his jail term, I think that both fighters are predicting that the opportunity is now or never to make some decent coin by making this bout happen, or else, face the possibility to retiring with a lighter bank account. Even though public interest has diminished a lot since the speculation started back in 2009, I truly agree with Brother rudee's interesting comments with the Judge practically giving Floyd a green light for This to happen. The transition of these events and the fact that these two are no more spring chickens will finally give us fans what we savored for so long. I could see Pacquiao retiring after this loss (hint-Hint) to fully dedicate to Politics, which in turn is more profitable & less risky, and Mayweather to perhaps become a full time rap Artist Producer (Who knows!).

Happy New Year to You All, and Hopefully 2012 brings Us another year of Interesting Bouts We Can All Comment On!

Cheers Gentlemen!!

Very well put Brother chido.. glad to read your fine comments. I totally agree,,, its now or never. Interest has dwindled, if they let this one go by, noone will
care anymore.
As I said before,, I am not that excited about it. I think both have passed their peaks. Shoulda happened years ago.
