WBA junior middleweight champion, Miguel Cotto, has made it clear that he won't fight Manny Pacquiao at the welterweight limit of 147-pounds, where Pacquiao holds the WBO title. When the two boxers fought in 2009, a catch-weight of 145-pounds was mandatory in reaching the deal. Cotto was stopped in the twelfth round of that fight.
For the rematch, which has a tentative date of June 9th in Las Vegas, Pacquiao refuses to fight Cotto above 147. This time around, Cotto will not give in. Pacquiao has to fight him at comfortable weight limit.
"He had no problems in dealing with [Antonio] Margarito at 150. He hasn't had problems with anyone regarding weight. With Joshua Clottey, they fought at 147. I drove down to 145. The [rematch], I'm going to do it at my weight. I will not sacrifice my body again for the benefit of another boxer. It won't happen at 147 pounds," Cotto (37-2, 30 KO's) said to BoxingScene.com.
"We are waiting for the offer to come and dedicate ourselves to train and win. In the next two weeks, we hope to have a response on the whole thing."
Another big option for Cotto, is a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. According to Cotto's team members, the issue of weight would not be a problem in a Mayweather fight.
"With the correct preparation, we would have no problem with anyone. This is not a deadline but we are waiting. It will come. What Pacquiao's group says about the weight, I do not care. They say that money talks. We'll see what happens," Cotto said.

I still say if Mayweather agrees make that fight happen.. I think Miguel has a greater chance against him. And hoping maybe he can beat him.........

Compromise.... 148 1/2
that should settle it.
Would be a huge payday for Cotto... he should give in just a little.

Moralejas!! Since the juice controversy with PBF, Roach and the Boss don't want to go up in weight to fight anyone. Stuck on 147 makes it clear that Ariza stopped doing his thing. The hole practice of draining boxers to beat them has stopped. Cotto being independent, will not contribute with such a practice, not anymore. That 's why Arum is considering fighting lower class challengers, can't expose his gold chicken to bigger men anymore since there is no gas in the tank.

MANILA, Philippines – Puerto Rican boxing champion Miguel Cotto reiterated that he has no intention of accepting a rematch with Filipino boxing icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao at a weight class below 150-pounds.
"I will not fight below 150-pounds," Cotto told Boxing Scene. "If Pacquiao has no trouble going up to 150 to fight (Antonio) Margarito, why is there a set requirement for me to go down again? Does he fear me?"
Cotto lost to Pacquiao when they first fought in 2009, in a bout that was held at a 145-pound catchweight. Since then, Pacquiao has fought at above 147-pounds only once, defeating Margarito in 2010 in a bout held at a 150-pound catchweight.
A Pacquiao-Cotto rematch may be held on June 9, but both camps are still at odds over the weight division.
Cotto said that if Pacquiao refuses to agree to a 150-pound catchweight, he will instead fight undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"Mayweather Jr. said he has no problems going up to 154-pounds to fight me," he said.
"If Pacquiao wants to fight me again, it must be above 150 pounds. I will not continue to sacrifice my body to lose weight," Cotto added.
After his loss to Pacquiao, Cotto moved up to the junior middleweight division, where he has since won the WBA championship.

Cotto is a very smart man. Fighting Manny too light and it's a repeat or worse. A higher weight will push Manny a bit harder maybe it's just psychological.
One thing I believe is that Manny can hurt him more than PBF, SO I look for the PBF fight before Pacquiao. Cotto is no dummy, this next fight will make him a lot of money!

It's not about being smart, It's about not giving in to Arum's malicious desires. Sure they want him drained on this one also but being an independent boxer, he's not complying. The heavier the better,JMM proofed that Manny is not have of what he used to be, therefore Cotto is ready to kick his butt at 150. PBF is bigger, defensive oriented, stronger and a better fighter than the Filipino, therefore will give Cotto a better run for his money. Arum knows this, he's the smart dude, no way he'll let Manny fight out of the 147weight class.
