KOBE LEADS ALL-STAR VOTING, BOSH 3RD AMONG EAST FORWARDS

THE SPORTS NETWORK

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant is still the leading vote-getter in the balloting for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game, while Philadelphia's Allen Iverson took over a starting spot in the East.

Bryant, the reigning NBA Finals MVP, has received 1,380,383 votes and has a narrow lead over Cleveland's LeBron James, who overtook Miami's Dwyane Wade for the top spot in the East with 1,315,292 tallies. Wade has 1,314,215 votes and is third overall.

The other projected starting guard for the East is Philadelphia's Allen Iverson, who has been elected to the last 10 All-Star Games and has started nine. Iverson, who was signed by the Sixers after his release from Memphis, has played in five games for Philadelphia in his second stint with the club that drafted him in 1996. He has 635,084 votes, which is about 80,000 more than Orlando's Vince Carter.

Last year's leading vote-getter, Orlando center Dwight Howard, has 1,252,786 votes and has a comfortable advantage over Cavs center Shaquille O'Neal, who has only 455,239 votes for second place amongst East centers.

Phoenix's Steve Nash took over the second guard spot in the West from Houston's Tracy McGrady with 546,064 total votes. McGrady has 541,190 and is third overall for Western Conference guards.

Denver's Carmelo Anthony and Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki continue to hold the top spots for West forwards with 1,204,234 and 668,243 votes, respectively. Nowitzki is trying to play for the hometown crowd in this year's All-Star Game but has to hold off the Lakers' Pau Gasol and the Spurs' Tim Duncan, who are third and fourth with 565,414 and 564,728 votes, respectively.

Phoenix's Amare Stoudemire has the top spot for West centers with 950,737 votes, which is just under 400,00 votes more than the Lakers' Andrew Bynum.

Slated to start aside of James at the forward position in the East is still Boston's Kevin Garnett, who has 1,113,213 votes. Chris Bosh of Toronto is a distant third with 553,230 votes.

Paper balloting will continue through January 10 with wireless tallies ceasing January 18, three days before the announcement of the starters for both conferences.

The 59th NBA All-Star Game is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 14.
