When you look at device manager in your pc, what com port is being used by the serial port? Is this a true serial port, virtual serial port, or what? Does the port selected in the loader match the port shown in the pc?

as suggested by stman, you may have to enable the serial port from your system bios if it is not listed in the device manager, make sure it is set to COM1 (3F8 with an IRQ).
