Pictures and videos of a Romanian-born model are causing a stir across the Internet this week. The reason? Iona Sapangenberg's tiny waist measures a mere 20 inches.
The 30-year-old model who now lives in Germany has a Barbie-like 32-20-32 figure and she insists that her unusually small waist is natural. Iona (who weighs just 84 pounds) claims that she does not have any kind of eating disorder and claims that she does not use corsets. "No one seems to believe it, but every day I eat three big meals and I snack on chocolate and crisps all the time," she told The Sun newspaper earlier this week. "I just have a small stomach. It's a bit like having a natural gastric band – if I eat too much, I feel sick."
Weighing more than seven pounds at birth, Iona (who has quickly ended up with the nickname "Human Hourglass") says that she began to notice her body transform into what it is now when she was a teenager.
"When I was 13 my waist was around 15 inches. Someone could put their hands around it, their fingers would touch and they would still have extra room. In Romania it is better to be overweight, because that means you are from a wealthy family. So while my friends were going out and dating, I was sitting at home with Mars bars wishing I could fatten up." - Iona Sapangenberg
Ioan claims to have struggled with self-esteem issues throughout her life and was finally able to feel comfortable in her own skin after she met her husband in 2006. He encouraged her to celebrate her body and was the first to post photos and videos of her online.
A recent YouTube video of the model strutting her stuff continues to go viral with over 3 million hits:
