View Full Version : Mixed Legacy and Dish Lnb's on a sw21 giving iffy signal on 110.

So I did the following. 61.5 to sw21 dish 1... Cable from DP (I believe 119) to sw21 dish 2. In my box I put 61.5 as Lnb single and sw21 dish 1 and everything came up fine. It scanned about around 400 channels. 119 I put ocs dp, sw21 dish 2 port 1 and 110 I put ocs DP , sw21 dish 2, port 2. I did a factory reset and input all this information. The problem is now that 110 doesn't have good signal on several transponders. I did not touch the dish so it's not that. It scanned about 420 channels when it normally scans 550+. like I said it has really bad signal now from tp 1-5 which is a problem cuz I don't pickup the Hd's Or PPV Hd's. I have an extra dish Lnb, should I try putting it on the 61.5 and joining the dish lnb with the dp twin along with the dp34 instead of mixing legacy with dish Lnb's or do I have my setup wrong? Thanks guys!
Edit. I have 110 and 119 on DP twins and 61.5 on legacy Lnb all on a sw21.

On the single dish lnb what do i put is on lnb type? Single, ocs, ocs-dp? Im talking about the single dish lnb on my 61.5 NOT the dish pro twin with 110 and 119? Thanks!

OK one question, why do you have/want 61.5?
And as for the LNB mixing, it's best not to mix DP pro LNB's with legacy, this combo doesn't work too well.
You can get single DP pro LNB's that will work fine along with the DP twin, then you can use any Diseqc switch to connect them all, in fact some of the newer DP pro twin LNB's have an external LNB input, but it has to be a DP pro LNB.
Then your switch settings can be Diseqc 1 =119W, 2 = 110W and 3= 61.5W, with OCS-DP set for all LNB's.
Also 90% of the HD programming is on 72.7W or 129W for Dish.

Problem is i live in PR and 72 and 129 are way too far for the size dish i have atm. Im having problems with 61.5. I had to use a cable that had a shady extension on one to make the cable longer in order to reach the dish. I am using the dp twin succesfully with 110 and 119 and 61.5 also, all on the dp34 but I am assuming the cable with the extension on the end is why 61.5 isnt locking anymore. I will try to get a long cable and retry. Thanks!

Yah your going to need a really large dish to even get 129 or 72 at your location.
On the cable, if the run is long then get some good RG-6 quad with the pure copper center, you can go out to 150 feet or more with that stuff, and be sure it's not for CATV, that stuff is too lossy at satellite down link frequency's from the LNB.
Coax for satellite work should be rated to 2.5 GHz or better, the better the coax, the better the signal.

Will do, i have some cable around the house that was used from my internet cable company, you think that would suffice? Thanks!

As long as it's marked "swept to 2.5 or 3 GHz" or "Good to 2.5 GHz" then it will work, it should be marked on the outside of the coax.
90% of the CATV or internet coax only goes to 900 MHz, it's much cheaper for them to use that stuff, then the good stuff for satellite work.
You should be using RG-6 quad with the pure copper center conductor if you have a long run from the LNB (or switch) to your satellite receiver, this will give you the best performance of your system.
However if your run to the receiver from the LNB (or switch) is over 175 feet you should then use RG-11, RG-11 coax is good to 250 feet, (but it's expensive and requires special connectors) anything beyond that will require some very expensive coax, or fiber optic cable and interface to get the job done.
And don't use an in-line amp, all they do is add system noise.

Ill check right now. It says catv 24370. Im assuimg thats the ghz, correct? It doesnt state ghz or anything. Is this good or should i ebay a proper cable?
