I just added satellite & tv diplexer to my HD antenna as I want to add dish to my second tv,but what I found is I lost some of channels(2-1,2-2,29-1,29-2 etc) by using diplexer,it was fine for all channels that I listed in post #24* without diplexer, but I really need it to combine satellite & TV signals and let them go through flat RG6 cable.any advice?

Rockisdead,

I moved you to your own thread, as we don't want to hi-jack the other one.

Now for your problems,

What do you mean by "Flat RG-6 cable" ???

And adding a diplexer will add attenuation to the system, you may need an active switch outside, one that will take the satellite signals and the TV signals and combine them, the active switch has an amplifier for the TV antenna input, this is to compensate for the system loss of using the diplexer at the other end.

Also what is the frequency range marked for the TV input/output on the diplexer your using, it has to go down to 40 MHz to get the TV channel #2 through it without some serious signal loss.

And when using a diplexer you can't use a TV antenna pre-amp, as the diplexer will only pass DC on the satellite side, there would be no way to power the TV antenna pre-amp.

What is an active switch?

What is an active switch?

One that uses an external DC power supply, (other then the receivers DC supply) or has it's own internal power supply to run the switch, and will sent a DC voltage to run a OTA antenna pre-amp, on the terrestrial antenna input.

If it has a power inserter or plugs into AC it can be called an active switch.

Also some of the better switches (more $$$) will have some good IF signal amps (not the cheap junk you find at Rat Shack) for the satellite signals, this way they can split the sats IF signals 8 to 32 times, to run more then 4 receivers off 1 switch.

EMP and Spaun make a good line of active switches.

Are these switches the only way to increase terrestrial signal? I'll be using diplexers so those switches won't work. I have a powered signal amplifier that was used for cable tv. Would this work with the antenna signal ater the diplexer?
