View Full Version : diseqc or dp34 or dpp44 switch?

I currently have running a dish500 w/dp quad lnb picking up 110 & 119, all going to a sv8000. I want to put up another dish500 to pick up 129. I have a few questions:

1. Which lnb to use for 129? Does it matter which lnb I get, DP dual or Legacy single?
2. If I get a legacy single, does that affect which switch I will need?
3. If I get a DP dual and dish500, would I need a DP34 to add on to my current dish500? Or is that too much draw from the 3 lnbs to the sv8000, so just get a dpp44 with power inserter?
4. Is a diseqc only for legacy lnbs or does it work with DP lnbs. Can I use a diseqc instead of a dp34 or dpp44 switch to combine dishes?

I would go with option #3, and use a DP dual on the 129 dish. (A DP dual LNB is a single satellite LNB, you need 2 for 2 satellites, 3 if you want 110, 119,129)

Or replace the 2 DP duel's with one of the newer DP twin LNB's, you wont need the switch, it has an input on it for a second LNB, Diseqc switching would be , Diseqc #1 = 119, Diseqc #2 = 110, Diseqc #3 = 129.

Thanks Terryl. Just to make sure, so a dp33 switch can handle the DP quad I already have and a DP dual I will add on?

Option 3, but spring for the dpp44. You'll never get three power hungry charlie lnb's to work correctly without a dpp44. Trust me on this.

thanks swingbozo, will do

Is this becuase the dpp44 has the power inserter. Will a dp34 also work, if I use an old DN receiver on output port1 to power the switch like a power inserter? Asking because I have a buddy who has a dp34 switch and I have an old DN receiver laying around.

If you power the dp34 with an old charlie box on port one then that should work OK. Charlie boxes huck a ton of juice down the line to power his lnb's up.

I tried for a long time to get things to work correctly using a dp34 and an FTA box back in the day. Nothing worked until I tossed in a dpp44 with the power inserter. Some people say to not use an FTA box with the power inserter on line one but I never had a problem.

Aimed for 129 and got S=66 and Q=96 on tp12516, hooked directly to sv8000. Scanned sat and everything was ok.
Disconnected from sv8000 and installed dp34, 129 dish on port 3, charlie box on output 1 and sv8000 on output 2.
When dp34 hooked up, S and Q still good but I get "service not available or scrambled". Charlie box is a 322 and on the back I saw "DP Plus" symbol. Should this work with DP lnbs or it doesn't make a difference? Do I need a 301 instead to power up the dp34?

I had nothing but bad luck with the dp34. I would strongly suggest just springing for the dpp44 and being done with it. What you are seeing is pretty much the definition of lack of power to charlie lnb's.

AFAIK, any charlie box is supposed to huck enough power down the line to get things to work. Once you are on more than 2 charlie lnb's though, all bets are off. Quite honestly I've never heard of a dp34 setup that actually worked. I'm not exactly sure why they even offer the thing.

thanks swingbozo, will find a dpp44

Once hooked a Charlie receiver to port 1(note got into menu and checked leave powered up at all times) never have had any issues with my 34`s(have two trunked) but have 91,110 & 119 so no DPP lnbs, have not hooked up the 1000.2 yet but figured had to just go with 44`s cause will be adding 129 to the others so good info for me.

The dpp's ARE the problem. They take a lot of juice in order to run correctly.

Some folks mentioned they had problems hooking an FTA box on the powered line 1 of the dpp44, but I never had any issues with it. I'm going to be swapping in another dish so I may be taking my old charlie setup down entirely... I don't IKS so it's really just sitting there taking up space when I could put in my new EMWIN weather satellite dish instead!

I ran a dish 1000+ with a dpp44 and was in fat city back in the day. 110, 118, 119, and 129 on one big dish. These days? not so much :bawl:
