FROM GMA NEWS - this morning:

Team Pacquiao has reached out to Floyd Mayweather Jr. with an offer of 70 percent of the pay-per-view (PPV) money going to the winner of a possible bout between Manny Pacquiao and the undefeated American fighter, Pacquiao business advisor Rex "Wakee" Salud confirmed to GMA News Online.

The 70-30 split is the latest in the back-and-forth negotiations between the two factions, as money has become the latest stumbling block to getting the fight, boxing fans all over the world wanted to see, off the ground.

Mayweather first called Pacquiao personally, and offered the Sarangani congressman a flat $40 million amount to fight him, with the Grand Rapids, Michigan native keeping the entirety of the PPV money.

Top Rank CEO and Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum countered with a $50 million offer to Mayweather with Pacquiao getting the PPV proceeds, but that too was rejected by the five-division world champion.

The Pacquiao side then put on the table a 55-45 split, with the winner bagging the larger amount of the pot, but it was turned down again by Mayweather.

Afterwards, Mayweather announced that he was filling his May 5 contractual obligation with Miguel Cotto, while Pacquiao settled for Timothy Bradley Jr.

Salud is hopeful that this latest offer of a 70-30 split will be enough to entice Mayweather to arrange a fight date after "Money" serves his jail term for domestic abuse, but Mayweather has been adamant about getting the entire PPV pie, no questions asked.

In an interview with Bob Costas on NBC Sports, Mayweather said, "How my deal is structured at this particular time in the sport of boxing, I keep 100 percent of the revenue. So why should I even give a guy 50-50 if I'm out there?"

"I have record breaking numbers that I've done. He has no record breaking numbers. With or without Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather is okay."

Salud first broke news of the negotiations on the radio station DZSR 918.

In the past, Floyd Mayweather demanded that Pacquiao accept strict, Olympic-style drug testing. Eventually, Pacquiao accepted, as long as a neutral organization other than the US Anti-Doping Agency, did the tests.

Last January, Mayweather called Pac-man out repeatedly on Twitter, but this time, the bone of contention was the date of the fight. Mayweather wanted it to happen on May 5 at the MGM Grand to fulfill a contract he had signed, but Arum insisted on pushing the date back in order to construct an outdoor arena that would increase the number of seats and revenue.

Mayweather though, will be serving time starting in June, after a judge allowed his jail term for domestic abuse to be pushed back. — JVP, GMA News

Don't ever hold your breath. He will find another excuse not to accept unless Cotto does it for him on May 5!

Mayweather isn't going to fight. He already said that he isn't going to let the fans push him into t fight that he may loose unless he takes most all of the money.

You must have read Scoop Malinowski's article titled: Mayweather Finally Admits Cowardice: Health Concerns Are Why He Ducked Pacquiao

Here is the gist of what he wrote:

Earlier in the interview, Mayweather mentioned Muhammad Ali’s health. “With or without Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather is okay. Floyd Mayweather fights for Floyd Mayweather. At the end of the day, Floyd Mayweather has to be happy and comfortable…Look at the Ali situation. Fans pushed him to get into fights at the end of his career that he didn’t want to get in…If Ali could trade it all in for his health, he would.”

(Note: Let me correct Floyd. Ali was not forced by fans to get in the ring with Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Ken Norton, Larry Holmes or Trevor Berbick. Money, pride and a fearless belief in his skills were the motivation for Ali to take those fights.)

Floyd also said: “One shot can end your whole career. Boxing is a very deadly sport.”
Costas said Floyd has to fight Pacquiao, to see who is the best, to give the fans what they want and to pump up the sport with a much-needed big, exciting, Super Bowl event: “I come first. Self preservation. I gotta worry about my family. If the fight don’t happen, so be it.”

There you go: “Self preservation.” So the reasons Mayweather gave us for two years of ducking and dodging Pacquiao – drug tests, fake retirements, Manny has to leave Arum and be his own boss, no 50-50 split, he doesn’t need Manny, it’s all Bob Arum’s fault, etc. – were indeed mere smokescreens, bluffs and lies. Cleverly but dishonestly used to cover up the real secret truth – Mayweather fears for his health because he knows Pacquiao would simply beat the hell out of him.

Mayweather knows his skills that pay the bills wouldn’t work against Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather does not have the confidence that his all-time great defensive skills will be able to control and subdue Pacquiao and maintain his unbeaten record and his good health, against the relentless assualts that Manny Pacquiao would unleash on him.

I almost wish that pac's camp wouldn't chase this fight anymore..Total failure at every attempt.Pac will fight and has said that repeatedly..Mayweather should slide into his cell and retire there..This should'nt be about publicity and preserving perfect records..Mayweather will run out of big money options and opponents very quickly..Jmo

Enough of this demands from Floyd! First was this random blood testing and then the money split up. And then the day of the fight. Everything have to go his way. B*** S***!!!! Lets face it. Floyd Jr. is nothing but a coward whose making to much excuses not to fight the Pacman. It's right for Pacquiao and Bob Arum not to give in to the demands of this criminal.

Mayweather has been running for years and taking on others at his timing. If he ever gets in the ring w/Pac he will go down. I am just hoping he lands on the canvas when he fights Cotto (which could surprise him!).

Well, the fact that Mayweather and Pac already singed contracts to fight Cotto and Bradley this thread is full of people's (hopes). Lets concentrate hopes in the Cuban trainer and the Puertoirican boxer, I'm sure they are working hard on this. As rudee said, they both are scared of each other............

I love it. Floyd gets "EXPOSED". The best part is the way it happened. Someone shoves a mic in his face and he just doesn't know when to shut his big mouth up. :tehe:

This fight is not going to happen and I'm at the point of not even wanting it to happen. The drama that is to occur for another year is getting old and if it was to occur I am no longer interested in seeing a championship fight where a fighter just runs from his opponent and jabs. I do, however, agree with a proposal where the winner takes the larger purse.

Terisagirl, I recall a time when I could name the top 5 fighter of every weight class from welterweight on upward. I could have told you who was the WBA,WBC, and IBF champions of each division. The sport is so uninteresting now that it appears that outside of Mayweather - Pacquiao there are no other interesting fights. With Mayweather's style, I doubt the fight with Pacquiao would even be exciting for I compare his style similar to that of Hector Macho Camacho. Mayweather is very good at making himself a villain so that many people only want to see his fight with hope to see that someone knocks the sh*t out of him.

There was a time where fighters fought everybody who was considered relevant. I pulled up Sugar Ray Leonard's record and saw that he fought Duran, Haggler, Camacho, Wilfredo Benitez, Floyed Mayweather, Hearns, and the list goes on and on. There was one year where Leonard fought 11 times. Fight just happened and we never heard of money disputes or where one fighter ducking the other.

The sport at its position is becoming irrelevant with all of its shenanigans.

There is an excellent post contributed by CHIGARO here: http://www.satfix.net/showthread.php?97188-Pacquiao-Mayweather-The-Concept-of-Negotiating-amp-Dealing-with-a-Non-Serious-%93Buyer%94

It explains why this fight cannot happen - "Mayweather is not serious about making this happen." He fears for one KO punch that he says "could end his life", which is why the only way he would accept that risk is if he were to have 100% of PPV revenues - meaning....there is no way he will accept to fight Pacquiao no matter what!!!

Were you there for that fight? That was one of the best fight I've ever seen. It was told that Haggler felt he won that fight and so decided to retire forever; was hoping then for rematch.

I watched it , coming in Live , at a little bar on Park Ave. called Zazoo , (in Montreal Quebec) the bar was owned by an eccentric musician
turned bar owner ,, He was one of the first (maybe the first) guy around to have installed a satellite dish, one of those 6 or 8 footers,!! LOL

We watched many sporting events at that bar ,, fights, hockey, football, and a ton of soccer ..
