Hi,
I was wondering if any of the FTA receivers, new or old have a tuner for OTA transmissions? I have a few old ones, and might even consider buying a used one if it can. I do not really need high def, although I know most of the local over the air transmissions are HD.
Thanks,
I used the search function, but could not really find the information I wanted.

Some of the HD units do, my Coolsat 8000 has an ATSC tuner in it, that is what you have to look for.
If you look through the receivers spec's, look to see if there is an ATSC tuner.
Then all you need to do is hook up an outdoor TV antenna (or indoor if your in a big city) and do a DTV scan.

Cool,
Thanks for the quick replies, was hoping one of my old doorstops would work, but think all i have is a old viewsat extreme and a Blackbird somewhere. Thanks for the info!

Those two receivers do not have OTA tunners in them. But do not overlook the old Pansat 8200. It has a good ATSC OTA tuner in it. Although the DVR was not good. Just OK. And any OTA will be HD transmission now. The program may not be HD but the transmission will be digital. All the analogs are gone, just a few low power going.

if you are referring to the sonicview HD and viewsat 9000 HD I can tell you they both do have an ATSC tuner in them to connect an antenna for OTA channels, use them daily for OTA channels...

No I was referring to the ones mentioned in post #4. those not. The SV8000 and VS 9000 do have ATSC tuners in them. And both are good.

My 9000HD OTA guide works for my local NBC affiliate, but not Fox, CBS or ABC, kinda odd but a Great receiver.

This all depends on the local stations, if they want to broadcast an EPG or not.

Terry is right if the station is broadcasting the EPG you will have to go to that channel and wait for it because the station will only have the EPG for there programing.

All I can say is that HD makes a huge difference over SD in picture quality. In Canada most of the stations come in 1080 but US stations are 720p . Sonicview 8000HD is by far, one of the best out there, and yes it does have EPG for OTA

Does the Video Recorder function work with the OTA channels in any of these FTA HD recievers?
Also if it works does it allow pausing live TV?
