Perfect Scan Method

Here is how you can get a perfect scan for your area.It takes a little time but you'll be happy with the results.

**** UNHOOK YOUR DONGLE FOR NOW ******

Some may want to start by loading the "System clean" file two or three times and then load the factory bin to start with a fresh box.Load the current file for your box and begin the steps below.

Follow me completely....

Turn the power "off" to any lnb your NOT scanning with (only what your pointed at).
Scan your sats one at a time turning the lnb power off and on as needed.

Next, go into the menu and "Delete" (repeat "Delete". Not a reset.) all your channels.
Remember to jump to the music side and delete all channels there too.
After you have deleted all the channels, save the file to your Usb stick.

You now have a clean transponder file for your area.

Next, go back into the sat menu.
Turn the power "off" to any lnb your NOT scanning with.
****Turn "off" "Network Search"****
This time, do a "manual scan" of each transponder one at a time, saving each as you go at the prompt.

After your scans are complete, turn all lnb power back on as needed and exit out.

Now save the file to your usb stick.

You now have a clean and full channel list for your area.Save it and use it again sometime if you need it.

This is your best way to scan to get everything you can in your area and have a minimal if any dups at all.

Reconnect your dongle.

Cant believe I just read that... if you have to do that for a perfect channel scan that tells me you have have a cheap bad switch that leaks from port to port... those cheap switches that came with the receivers are useless toss them in the garbage all there good for.
If you have a good quality switch you do not have to turn off power to other lnbs for scanning.
Use emp Centauri 4x1 or Spawn switches... you wont have scanning problems ever again or double channels in your guide ever again after scanning. From years of experience doing this.. scanning with Network search "off" results in far few channels from scanning in.. I alwasy use Network search "on" try it and you will see for your self.

To bad all the stickies were not recovered from the last satfix site... so much time and effort went into all that information..

Lol... it's a built in switch typical of the dn-500's.

The guide works well for those that have issues getting their SV's to scan correctly and was not intended as a scan method for everyone.
That said, yes I know very well how the scans go for SV.
I know that turning the power off to the lnb's helps reduce the chance of dups.
I know that turning "Network Search" to off also helps reduce the dups.
Yes, I've scanned every reasonable way possible and this has worked best for me.
With the recent moves, many are reporting having issues.Hence the reason for the post.
But lets just see what some others have to say after trying it.

LOL is right...That is your problem right there in front of you and you dont even see it .. those lnb built in switches are a nightmare! nothing but problems..
they are no good for what we are doing... rip them out and use single lnbs with no internal switches..
been there done that... double channels in the guide from a fresh scan is a result of bad switches like I said before.. be it in the lnb or not..
fix your switch it is the issue here that you have... in your case you need to replace the lnb get rid of internal lnb switches.
Instead of trying to work around your problem, fix the problem that is causing all this...
If you dont want to listen from a pro... well to bad I guess....

Delete all the channels in the guide before re scanning. When you get channels in the guide with no information and dont work any more, they have moved to a different sat or a different transponder... so you need to re scan.. if you dont delete all the channels in the guide before you scan, when you rescan you will get the same channel scanned it but with the new transponder info for it.. so both the same channels will be in the guide now.. the old one you had before with no guide info and the new channel with guide info that works, thus a double channle in your guide. If you delete all the channels in the guide first and then rescan you should have NO double channels in the guide.. If you do... this is caused from bad switches..

Some added info.....
When you go to "Delete" your channels, turn the power "off" to all your lnbs.This will stop the box from trying to tune to each channel as you stop to delete and will speed the process a bit.
Turning "Network search" to "off" will do two things for you with SV. First, it will stop the populating of the c-band transponders that most here have no need for.
Second and more important, it will stop the box from doing a full sat scan when your trying to do your individual transponder scans.
Leaving Network search on will cause the box to automatically begin a full scan after the transponder scan.You don't want that.
You will put about an hour into this process. Give yourself plenty of time and be patient.

You will be thrilled with the results and you will also observe a very clean and working Epg as well.

I have to disagree with that. I understand the "theory" of Turning "Network search" to "off"
but the reality of it and the out come of it are two different things I found...
"You will put about an hour into this process" False!!! that is so not true...
In this example I use 110 sat. to scan. I just did a factory default and re did my sat settings...
I turn Network search to "Off" and I start the scan and completes in 2:53 min. with 483 ch. scanned in.
I re factory default again and re set the sat settings and do the same but now with Network Search "ON"
and I start the scan and completes in 3:14 min. with 515 ch. scanned in ! I've done this before and found
Network Search "OFF" will result in many missing channels I have found..
If it takes an hour or an over extended amount of time to scan with Network Search "On"
that's a sing your system has issues in play and that would tell me its likely you have a cheap leaky diseqc switch.
Get your self a good switch that are isolated good from port to port... I've tested many brands of diseqc and all have let me down at some point with scanning... I don't know why just first hand experience that I have.. the best switch I found for scanning
are the 4x1 EMP-Centauri diseqc switch. I have these installed on many systems.. they proven to be fool proof over the years.

Look at your picture. Echostar 10, 11 is not suppose to be port 1. It is port suppose to be port 2. 119 is 1, 110 is 2, 129 is 3.

Whiskey, are you kidding me? Being your first post, I guess I'll explain... the settings all depend on how you have your lnbs pluged into your switches. You can have 110 sat on say port 4 if you want...
plug the 110 lnb line to the port 4 on the diseqc switch. The port settings all depend on how your sat lines connect to what port on your switch..

Not necessarily - depends on the lnbs . In your photo you specified ocs-dp . What kind of lnb(s) are you using ?

Its ocs-dp cause I have a Dish pro single lnb on that sat... I also have sat 119 on port 1. I have 119 through a 22ghz switch.
110 port 1 22ghz off, 119 port 1 22ghz on. I have a Zinwell 4x4 switch in front of the 4x1 diseqc.
You can have two sats on each port of the 4x1 up to 8 sats running through your 4x1.
There are so so many ways to set up your switch configuration... I post a few pics for examples..
there was sticky on another site before with about 50 pictures of every imaginable switch configuration..

That will work fine - not too many ppl use those lnbs, guess the assumption was that you were using a dptwinplus twin or quad.
