Can I use a mig welder for new cars without disconnecting a battery
I have wed on newer cars and haven't had a problem yet.
From my understanding you disconnect the battery to prevent damage to the voltage regulator circuits in the alternator. There is a risk of damaging other modules too.
Why not disconnect the battery? Just write down the radio code and presets... If you have memory seats/mirrors, I don't know if the settings will survive a battery disconnect, but I guess that depends on the car.
i would like to add one thing to this, keep your ground clamp as close to the weld as you can, that will help.
Just disconnect the battery, why would you not spent 30 second to do that. I would never weld on any vehicle without disconnecting the negative battery post. It's a rule of thumb...
