hi guys well my damn rotator failed again,now i just took it out for good and i'm thinking of getting a 8 bowtie and put it under my existing directional antenna

Antennas can be stacked IF they are of the same type and model, stacking different types of antennas will cause problems.
You can combine a UHF antenna with a VHF antenna, but two or more UHF or VHF antennas should be of the same type, otherwise the RF phase differences between the two types will nullify any gain or even possibly wipe out any signals, this due to the one antenna being slightly out of phase with the other.
This causes a phase cancellation (one or more signals on one antenna slightly out of phase with the other antenna) and it will attenuate all signals.
When stacking or combining two UHF or VHF antennas the coax length between the two should be exactly the same, also the combiner should be a good one, using a simple two way TV signal splitter will cause headaches.
The stacked distance between the two antennas is also critical, one too high or low can cause problems, and they need to be pointed in the same direction.
There is one antenna that can be used to point to two different directions, I think it is a dual 8 element bow-tie, it can be setup side by side and pointed in different directions. (to a point)
Stacking antennas without the right equipment and hardware can cause serious hair loss, and binge drinking.

Hi Frank55, well you would need a second one just like that one, but you can't point them in different directions, that would cause problems.
And when stacking or combining two antennas of the same types (called co-phasing) your only going to gain another 3 dB if your lucky and the co-phasing is done right..
It would be best if you need to point in two different directions to pick up more TV stations is to use an A/B antenna switch.
