Sonciview 8000 HD no display, how I fixed one.

Had a buddy say his SV8K had no display. He said it failed slowly over time in that a reboot would fix it until, finally it had no display at all. Also HDMI out did not work, I did not test other video out. Both green LED's on PCB would still light.

I checked all voltages on the PSU and noticed the 12VP was out so I replaced capacitors C67 and C68, rated 220uF, 16VDC. 12VP came back but still no display.

On further investigation caps C64 and C66, rated 470uF, 10VDC were bad. I think the 5VP appeared OK on the DVM but checking the associated caps using a cap meter showed they had failed. Replace those two and the unit came back up, both display and HDMI.

I have repair a $h!t tone of SV8K and have never seen the display fail. Kind of weird both circuits were VP circuits.

Anyway I hope this help someone one day. Probably me when I forget I fixed one before LOL.

I came across this information on a forum search as to problems with the Sonicview 8000 HD receiver having no display. If possible could I please obtain information as to the actual value of capacitor C10; I am reading it is a small 470uf 10vdc component but I cannot locate such on the circuit board. There is an electrolytic identified as C10 with a value of 1000mfd@10Vdc (top is bulged so is bad). Is there an actual 470mfd 10V cap on the board? I can upload a photo of the board if required. Thank you auggie! The board itself is even older than that quoted on the repair info so I am going to replace all caps and see how that turns out.

Over time the 8000 display brightness will become dimmer and dimmer. To the point of barely able to see. Swapping out with a good spare front section will tell you if that is the problem. There is also an adjustment in settings to brighten the display.
