A man is suing his parents for more than $86,000 in damages, claiming they threw away his extensive pornography collection.
The man, identified only as "Charlie" in media coverage, filed the lawsuit this week in Grand Haven, Mich.,
Charlie reportedly moved into his parents’ home in October 2016 after divorcing his wife and stayed for 10 months. He did housework in lieu of paying rent, according to the lawsuit.
He left his parents’ home in August 2017 after police were called for a domestic situation. His parents brought his possessions to his new home in Indiana several months later, but his collection of pornography was missing, Fox 17 reported.
His parents admitted to destroying his collection, which consisted of over a dozen large boxes of movies.
Charlie valued his collection at $28,940.72, and claimed that many of the films that were destroyed are now out of print, or were produced by now-shuttered studios. He filed a report with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office but prosecutors declined to press criminal charges.
"If you had a problem with my belongings, you should have stated that at the time and I would have gone elsewhere. Instead you choose to keep quiet and behave vindictively," Charlie wrote in an email to his father, according to documents obtained by Fox 17.
His father responded by saying he destroyed the pornography collection for his son’s “mental and emotional health.”
“I would have done the same if I had found a kilo of crack cocaine,” the father reportedly wrote. “Someday, I hope you will understand.”
