is there a place to look up the date code of my washer and dryer?

I have 2 nd hand appliances and don't know the date of manufacture. So now I need a timer on the washer (2nd i will have put in) and am wondering if it is worth replacing whole unit. I have a Ge washer model gjsr2080woww serial mv900755p and a dryer is Kenmore c1108850080 serial 9dm46747. I suspect the washer is 1990 but don't know the dryer.So is there someplace to check the dryer and any opinion on the washer. I know the new stuff is not built as well as the old but at some point we need to re evaluate right?

That might be hard to find online.Perhaps a appliance retailer or repair centre could anwser that.If its an older GE its likely a good machine.How often does the timer fail?And how much is a timer?If you decide to replace any of your machines make sure you get as much extended warranty as you can.GL

Well i did some more checking the washer is 10 years old and this will be the 3rd timer. A rebuilt timer with 1 year warranty is 65 bucks (cheap I know). New is 160 bucks and 3 month warranty. The Kenmore dryer I don't know the age of.

The only thing i have replaced on the older kenmore dryers are belts and they last a long time.160 bucks for a timer with a 3 month warranty and this is the 3rd one is taking a chance.I would price some new or used washing machines.I recommend going new.Stay away from samsung or the cheaper maytags as they are the same.A new unit should come with a 1yr manufacturers warranty.Be sure to get an extended in house warranty for another 4yrs if purchasing new.Gl.

The model number and serial number should be all you need to give an appliance supply & repair business. I've replaced quite a few over the years.
It's not that hard and much cheaper than buying a new one.

One old repair man said to prevent the timer from wearing out to turn always clockwise. Hope this tip prevents future problems...

I do Hvac for a living and I have worked on alot of appliances,
There does come a point in time When it might be Advantageous
to upgrade your appliances... Just remember an Appliance is a
investment... Now I know what your thinking oh yeah Inital Cost...
The arm and Leg theory, Well you are right the Initial outlay sucks,
However the long term gains are great.... I replaced My old washer
and dryer with a Ge Profile Series.... Now Mind you 5 years ago
those damn things cost me like 1500 bucks... However the amount
of money it saved me on Electricity and Water was Amazing... I
saved 22% on my Electric Bill and 35% on my water bill about 50
bucks a month... Needless to say they have paid for themselves
over and over..... It might be a good idea to upgrade.. But
as said in the posts before... These things are Not built as good
as the older ones.... One thing with washing machines is the
Transmissions... They always act the fool.. But My Washer
does not have the Old fashioned agitator it has a Disk in the
bottom that spins back and fourth so there is not that much
resistence on the Transmission... Not to mention some of the
motors are Variable Speed. Ac to dc which will save you big time
money on electricity.. The Long and the short of it, is the Blasted
thing Paying you back... That is what matters... Maytag is made
by Nordyne now... Maytag is not what it use to be... Most of
the parts are made in china Japan Korea Malaysia Etc.. Etc...
If you buy a new one Go by the Energy Guide.. The longest
warranty Best Price and Highest Energy Effeciency rating is
what you go by everything else is smoke and Mirrors...
