A Coal Miners Son
Coal Miners Will Understand.
A Proud Coal Miner’s Son
I am the son of a coal miner, and proud that I am
My Dad worked in the mines, to bring the coal up high
Along with my brothers, they worked at digging coal
John. David, and Hughie, they worked and gave there all
Dad wouldn’t let me work in those mines, deep down underground
He said that’s not the place for you, I’ll keep you above ground
Many friends gave their lives, to bring up that black gold
Many left those mines, and gracefully grew old
The years in those mines, did take their toll
Dad. David, and Hughie, never did grow old
John and me, are left behind, to remember those dark years
With those who have gone, we did shed some tears
Life goes on, we have to live
The mines and the coal, we give back to Mother Earth
Yes a Miners Son, and proud I am to be
I’m glad I wasn’t in the mines
My Dad, he kept me free
Now we are older, the mines are all done
We live our lives, and try to have fun
Now we are two, just John and Me
And proud to be a coal miner’s sons
John and me, are very proud you see.
