im 10 nmiles off with dad off the east coast usa barely see land from the flying bridge. i ask dad home? he said yes. i said which way on the compass he said go east. we are still headed to Europe.

no gps ? head for land, and take in the way the current runs.
My brother use to take his shrimp boat several hundred miles off with only a compass, He'd break down and float around for days, until he ran out of beer then he would be concern about getting back. When did did as long as he was within 10-15degrees on the compass he was happy. He ended up anywhere from Va to the Keys
bet ya' on the next trip, he took more beer. great story.
