Nimiq 1 vs Nimiq 6, signal reports

This thread will be used to report (for now) any signal reports on the current Nimiq 1 satellite at 91 West.

Please report the "Q" readings, and what type of Dish, LNB and receiver your using.

Use TP 12559L as it has 1 open channel on it, Channel 195.

Please use a general location only, like 100 miles south of Chicago, or 50 miles southwest of NYC, we dont want you to give away your exact location.


When Nimiq 6 comes on line please report back with any changes in signal.

OK my "Q" reading on Nimiq 1 is 96%.

Using a Invacom QPH-031 LNB on a 39" dish, using a CoolSat 8000, location is 90 miles East of Modesto California.

Will report back when Nimiq 6 comes on line.

I'm right in the heart of the footprint, right at the US border at Massena, NY. I have a bev 18" dish with dual lnb for both 82 and 91- dreamlink hd is reading at 87% signal quality.

Two hundred miles south of Chicago.

Note: I lost transponder 4 (12268) today. They must be moving things around.

I believe a few tp's are already powered on nimiq 6. I just scanned the sat and I get 100% Q on 7 tp's. The rest are in the 70's and 80's which is what all the tp's were before here.
The tp's that I'm getting 100% now are...
12253, 12282, 12341, 12370, 12472, 12603 and 12618. Note that 12282, 12341, and 12370 are all T8PSK now.
I'm in Canada so I would expect the new sat to be stronger here.

nimiq 6 update:

southern US readings on follwing tps:

12253, 12282, 12341, 12370, 12472, 12603, 12618, and now 12457 tp's

are now at 0% quality - no signal......................

tps 12282, 12341, 12370 and 12457 are Turbo 8PSK

however, i don't think they are being sent from Nimiq 6 just yet. remember, Bell just took control of N6 a couple days ago, they still have to do their testing before going live

Read post nine. There are seven tps being reported by other Bev subs as now 100%Q Some of which have active channels. I have lost all channels on tp3 which is now at 0%Q.

I am using 18" dish with Q in the mid 70's about 140 miles west of Indianapolis. The transponders in post 9 I have no signal now, others are still mid 70's. I use a 39" for 82 and will try it later for 91.

What site shows this info?

All the ones I use still list the satellite as all QPSK.

no site, these are readings from my Dreamlink HD

the quality levels are a tad low due to the weather right now in Toronto. they were at 97% s/q about an hour ago

Lost TP's - 3,5,9,11,17,18,27,28

Did they Tighten the Foot Print from 82? I can get avg 50% on all Tp's on 82....

Time for a Bigger Dish!

once 91 is gone anyway for folks in So Cal to get Canadian TV? Can we hit any Canadian Sats now?

82 i'm using a 1000.2 dish pan with a single lnb, planing on jumping to a 39", should work for both....

Keep in mind, while prob not significant for most, Nimiq 1 has moved slightly and Nimiq 6 is not exactly where Nimiq 1 was or is.
You may want some dish alignment to truly test these two sats at the present time for more accurate Q values.

Well I would agree, if they moved it a half a degree or more, but .1 degrees is not enough to make that big a difference, not when most LNB's have a plus or minus 1 degree aperture on the forcing cone.

If they move it (Nimiq 1) and the signals dropped, then there would be a lot of unhappy BEL customers out in the boonies with some signal problems, customer service would be flooded with calls.

And most BEL and Dish satellite dishes have a 2 degree receive beamwidth, otherwise you would need some very expensive equipment to align the dish to the satellite.


Back in the stone age, we needed spectrum analyzers to align the receive dishes.

Many Bell customers are reporting drops in their Q values during this transition, especially Arctic region.
Although, the drop in Q values are not significant enough until rain fade is an issue they don't see a
viewing difference, however, Q values have dropped for some and this shouldn't be a concern in a week or two.

In my case on the East coast, some Q values have dropped to the 50's and 60's but this doesn't affect
programming. In other areas, Q values are reported to be 100 pc. Service calls are unlikely for now.

As for the 21500 TP mentioned by timster, these are being tested on Nimiq 1 for now.

And I too have lost those TP's that Cableman0327 has posted, but you still have a signal on them, they may be switching over as we post.

All my active transponders are in the 99% Q range, so far.(on a 1 meter dish)

I Haven't lost any more then what i previously posted, still on a Dish 500, Haven't switched to a bigger dish yet, But i do have 35% on 12.370 (not enough to do anything....)

I too have lost the following TP's as of today.

TP-1, 12224...."Q"= 0
TP-2, 12239...."Q"= 0
TP-3, 12253...."Q"= 0
TP-4, 12268...."Q"= 0
TP-6, 12297...."Q"= 0
TP-7, 12311...."Q"= 0
TP-13, 12399...."Q"= 0

Still have good signals on the rest
TP-20, 12501...."Q"= 98%

OK as some have been reporting in other threads, I have lost all transponders on Nimiq 1. (in the central California area)

All read 0% "Q" on every TP from 12224 to 12676, so it looks like 80% of the US is out of luck for signals from BEV on 82/91.


We would still like reports from those South of the US Canadian border that still have signals from 91W.

With a name like mistress i can tell your going to have a tough time giving up eating beaver but for us guys no matter how unfriendly our neighbors are we will not give up eating beaver. I also tip my HAT to you for taking a stance on this issue.

I'm in PA. in the Scranton--Wilkes Barre area and my friend tells me he lost about 20% to 25% viewing with a dish 500. I should say i'm talking about SAT 91 with the changes today.
