Junxbox Premium HD Info/Pictures/"Review"
Heya, I recently got a "Junxbox" Premium HD from AliExpress, and decided to post a little bit of info, since I've had multiple people in PM ask me about it.
The box included the receiver, remote, HDMI cable, normal A/V cables, 12v power adapter, and an IR remote extender. No manual is included, you're on your own, but you can figure it out
Physically, the build quality of the unit itself seems decent. It also includes a fan preinstalled, so you don't need to modify it to add one if you want it to stay cool. The unit is very slightly bigger than a Dreamlink receiver. The remote is kind of low quality, it's very lightweight, glossy plastic that I don't personally like, but it does get the job done.
Software-wise... First off, you don't need a custom file/bin in order to use IKS. It comes preloaded with the necessary software. It works fine with the new TP changes on BEV, locks to all the TPs with no issues. I don't really like the info screen. The UI is kind of ugly in some ways, but nice in others. Worse than Dreamlink IMO.
Other things to note:
- The included WiFi adapter is junk. It picks up barely 25% signal on my router 20ft away that everything else in the house is connected to, and it disconnects constantly. I'm almost tempted to believe that the antenna on it is just fake. I've had no issues just using a cable instead.
- I'm a bit of an electronics nerd, so I opened up the included power adapter to check the build quality. It looks surprisingly decent and well-made, good isolation between high and low voltage sides, probably won't kill you.
- The LNB input port: The "hole" is a bit "tight", and you may need to wiggle the connector or even force it a bit to get it to go in. It's also hard to get it back out again. It works fine, though, and I didn't damage it during several times reconnecting it.
- When opening/closing the EPG, it seems to either reconnect to the server or perhaps relock to the TP, because the picture consistently goes black for a few seconds. I really hate this, but it's not a big deal in the end.
- Picture quality is fine, at least as good as a Dreamlink. Ignore the photos for that, I'm tuned to an SD channel and watching on a TV that isn't all that great, not to mention using a mediocre camera.
- PVR functionality works good, you need a fast hard drive otherwise it will freeze a lot. It also has the ability to dedicate part of the HDD to storing a buffer recording for pausing and rewinding live TV - this is something I miss from BEV receivers that as far as I can tell isn't on the Dreamlinks. Not sure how standard this is.
- Edited/Added Jun 8 2024: The box is missing a few TPs on 91 from the factory and you have to re-add them. Check LyngSat list against your box's list to be sure, but I think it's 12370V/21500/8PSK, 12457H/21500/8PSK, 12282V/21500/8PSK, and 12457V/21500/QPSK. I think 2 or 3 of those have channels on them so they're not just useless.
All in all, I'd recommend getting one of these if it is what you need. It's better than I expected for the price. I am not sponsored by whoever makes these things :p
Pictures attached... Hope this helps.
